GRIEF IT WAS SOMETHING THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH, living hundreds of years on Earth, meeting humans is common for them, since some part of their life, they were also humans.

Grieving was what makes them feel somewhat human.

It was Evangeline first felt when she woke up to what she was now, the loss of her lover and family, especially the ability to be with a child, something that was needed to get used to for decades.

It had been months since they received the news from Irina that Laurent was gone, and Irina was not getting better, only worse.

The family didn't know what to do or how to approach her. They will never know the feeling of the loss of someone they love and care deeply about.

Evangeline couldn't bear seeing Irina the way she was right now, and she would do something about it.

She was standing in front of Irina's bedroom door.

"I know you're there, Evangeline," Irina says quietly, "You can come in."

And so she did, opening the door, walking slowly towards her, and sitting beside Irina on the bed.

"Does it get any better?" Irina asks Evangeline, looking at her with venoms that will never fall.

"It does, it takes years, decades, even a century, but it does eventually," Evangeline says to her.

"Is this why you traveled?" Irina asks her.

"Yes, the pain was too much. When I woke up, all I wanted to do was see him, hug him, and feel him in my arms again, but I couldn't without killing him. It was my solution," Evangeline tells her.

"I understand what you were feeling back then now. You never wanted this. You had your life planned out, except for what happened to you that night," Irina says.

"It was a memory I never wanted to recall," Evangeline says quietly.

"Did you ever see him?" Irina asks, trying to distract herself from the pain.

"I did. I was there when he received the news. All I wanted to do was come to him, tell him that I was there, that I was fine, but I couldn't. His blood was incredibly tempting, and it was the sweetest scent that I have ever smelled," Evangeline says. It truly was the most alluring scent, she asked Kate about it, the blonde told her that maybe he was her blood singer meaning if he was changed they'll be mates, that was all Evangeline needed to hear, she was okay with that, even if that means that he'll never have her in his life.

"Do you miss him?" Irina asks.

"Every day," Evangeline answers without a second thought.

"That's what I'm going to feel. Always feeling like something is missing, like a hole in your heart," Irina asks.

"Yes, it's hard, but it takes as much time as you need," Evangeline says to her while rubbing Irina's back.

"He loves you. He told you in that note that he loves you," Evangeline says with a tight lip smile.

"That's all the assurance I need," Irina says.

"Everything will get better, trust me," Evangeline tells her.

"I trust you."
