EVANGELINE AND KATE ARE OUT HUNTING when Kate's phone suddenly buzzed. Someone messaged her.

Kate looks at her phone and reads the message. A hand went to her mouth, eyes widening. The blonde looks at Evangeline.

"We got to head home now!" Kate yells as she rushes back home, Evangeline following behind her.

Busting to the front door, the two blondes saw Irina crying loudly with a distraught look on her face.

"What happened?" Evangeline asks as she and Kate walk slowly towards the others in the living room.

"Laurent," Irina says as she sobs, leaning into Tanya's hold.

"He's gone," Kate answers, holding Evangeline's hand.

Evangeline didn't know what to say. For the first time, she was speechless, to say the least.

"Tell us what happened," Carmen asks the blonde gently.

"I followed him to Forks, and when I finally saw him, I saw those...things, taller and bigger than me. They were attacking him when I got there," Irina tells them, hiccups escaping her lips.

"What things?" Evangeline asks, confused about what her sister is describing.

"Shape-shifters, the Quileute tribe that resides on Forks, I heard of them from my time in the Volturi," Eleazar says to them sternly, holding Carmen tightly, never wanting to experience the pain that Irina was currently feeling for the loss of her mate.

"Did they see you?" Tanya asks her holding Irina's hand.

"No, they were too busy burning his body even to notice me," Irina answers. She didn't know what to feel, grief, anger, sadness, loneliness.

Evangeline went to the kitchen, poured a glass of animal blood for Irina, and walked back, putting a coaster and sliding it towards her sister.

"You should drink and keep your energy," Evangeline tells Irina.

"I should go to my room," Irina says, standing up from the sofa and speeding towards her bedroom.

Evangeline sighed as she sat on the sofa, looking at her family with a frown.

"Should we inform Carlisle?" Kate asks Tanya.

"No, that's Irina's decision, not ours," Tanya answers, leaning back on the sofa, messaging the temples of her head.

"What happens now?" Evangeline asks them.

"For now, we grief for the loss of our coven mate, and we continue with our lives," Tanya tells them with a sharp nod.
