Living in the city

Living in the city,

Something's twinkling in the sky,

It's not a star,

Maybe a plane, or a helicopter,

Not that it matters, living in the city,

Everyone's too busy, too caught up,

They haven't enough time to stop and stare at the sky,

There's not enough time for loved ones or relatives,

Schedules are tight,

Things are blamed on police, government or society,

People don't want to realise that they're at fault,

Realise the actual reason their lives are so hectic,

That what they do in the city,

Sets off a chain reaction,

Affecting the world,

Makes you wonder,

The brief moment when someone stops, looks around,

What do they see?

In the city,

Do they see a reason to keep going,

A reason to carry on rushing,

Or do they see lives wasted,

Ambitions unfulfilled,

No need for hope,

No fear,

Only automated machines,

Never stopping,

Never weary,

Carrying on with their lives,

Living in the city.
