I'm so glad you made time to see me. How's life, tell me how's your family? I haven't seen them in a while. You've been good, busier then ever. We small talk, work and the weather.
It's been 4 years since she fucked everything up. Nini still regrets it every night. Now, she's in New York, about to finish her semester, stressed and missing the curly hair boy's arms and words of comfort. Yeah, she has a boyfriend who is nice, but does she love him? Her thoughts got interrupted by the barista calling her name. She grabbed her coffee and turned around to leave. That's when she saw him. He was a little taller, still using hoodies with black vans. His curls a little longer. He saw her too. Her hair was shorter, she was wearing a red sweater. He smiled at her. Next thing they knew, they were at the same cafe, sitting in front of each other, doing small talk.
"Yeah, dad got promoted from his job, he's doing great, he has a new girlfriend too" His smile faded a little.
"So, how is Jenny?" He opened his mouth, but closed it without knowing what to say "One of us had to bring it up" She took a sip of her coffee to make it less awkward.
"She's good. You know, we've been together for like a year. How's Luke?" He wasn't smiling at all. Saying his name still hurted him. Even if he had a girlfriend, he couldn't heal his heart that the girl sitting in front of him broke.
"He's...good? I guess, I don't know." She looked down. And then she stared at his eyes. That answered her previous question. He bit his lip and stood up.
"I'm sorry Nini. I'm- I can't do this. It was nice seeing you. Take care." He left without letting her respond. She noticed that his eyes were starting to tear up. Fuck. She started crying. Well, sobbing. It was her fault. She put her headphones on, and pressed play to her sad playlist, trying to let all out.
Your guard is up and I know why.
