CHAPTER 2
FREEDOM
David is such a wise man. He knows a lot about art and I found myself quite charmed with everything that he says.
"And this is the Winged Victory of Samothrace," He explained. "It was created to honor the sea battle and the Greek Goddess Nike."
"Nike? I've never heard of her."
"She's the goddess of victory," He continued. "Why don't you stand over there and I'll take a picture of you?" Bago pa 'ko makapagsalita ay kinuha niya na sa kamay ko ang camera. Natawa na lang ako at tumayo na nga sa gitna. Nasa likuran ko ang statue.
"Here." He smiled afterward, giving me back my cam. We've been here for two hours, but I haven't even noticed. I lost track of time whenever he shares a story about a painting or a sculpture that caught our eye.
David told me this wasn't his first time here. It's his third actually but he still finds the place very magical.
"Bakit hindi ka na lang kaya mag-tour guide? It suits you very well," asar ko.
He chuckled. "Pwede naman pero baka itakwil na 'ko ng tatay ko 'pag nagkataon," biro niya.
Camille texted me their location, so I pulled him to the other wing. Malapit na ito sa mga katulong ko kaya naman medyo nalungkot na ako. Eventually, I'd have to say goodbye to him because I had to go and follow my mother's itinerary. But come to think of it, kung 'di ko siya makakasama, sino na lang mage-explain sa'kin ng mga nakikita ko? It'd be useless. Maybe I should invite him to come along.
"David." He didn't stop, so I touched his arm.
He finally looked at me. "Yeah?"
"I don't usually say this to people I barely know, but you're like an expert about Paris. I'm sure there are still a lot of things I can learn from you. So, I'm thinking, maybe---you know---uhmm."
He smiled a little, his dimples showing. "Maybe?"
"Maybe I can hire you as my tour guide?"
Freak. That's not what I really want to say. I want to spend more time with David because he amuses me. And it is already a jackpot that he is the only person I have met who does not even know who I am.
He treats me like a normal tourist and he's really nice. Walang pagmamayabang kahit na halata namang mayaman din siya katulad ko. Ghad, he's wearing an Audemars Piguet swiss luxury watch!
"Tour guide?" He laughed.
"I didn't mean to offend you---"
"You don't need to hire me. I'll voluntarily go with you. Where shall we go, Miss?"
I smiled in return, but my handmaidens immediately came back to my mind.
If I go outside and David sees me with Camille and the rest of my helpers, my limo, and my driver, he'll get the idea of how wealthy I am.
We need to leave, now!
