The first time your family tried to set you up with Newt was years ago. It was your first dance, the freshman winter formal. Everything was good to go, and even if it wasn't it would be sooner than later because they had Plan A-B-C-all-the-way-to-Z.

Until Newt came home with the flu the day before your dance.

The second time your family tried to set you up with Newt was the year following freshman formal. He had joined the highschool cross country team and needed some training so your parents had volunteered you.

But then Newt broke his foot.

The third time your family tried to set you up with Newt was only one year ago. He had just gotten his driver's license and was supposed to take you out for dinner and a movie.

However, you ate too many gummy bears and went home sick instead.

The fourth time your family tried to set you up with Newt was only months after your failed 'date'. It was nearing the time of your first homecoming dance and Newt was planning to ask you. He had a poster and flowers and everything, but when he saw you laughing with your friends he turned around and walked the other way.

The next day someone else asked you out (and you said yes).

The fifth time your family tried to set you up with Newt was after homecoming. You really liked your date and when he finally asked you out for a real date there was no hesitation in your "yes". Your family didn't like the boy, but you thought it was normal for dad's to antagonize their kids' boyfriends.

Just maybe not that much...

The sixth time your family tried to set you up with Newt was when your heart was broken for the first time. Your boyfriend, though everyone saw it coming, had dumped you. You locked yourself in your room but your mom sent Newt through your window.

When you saw him you screamed and he almost fell out of the tree.

The seventh time your family tried to set you up with Newt was this last school year. Your parents stole your schedule and when you got it back Newt's was changed as well.

You both had the exact same schedule.

The eighth time your family tried to set you up with Newt was months ago. Thomas decided against going to the school dance and instead hosted a party with some friends.

You arrived with Newt but left alone.

The ninth time your family tried to set you up with Newt was weeks ago. It was your winter break and they apparently had just enough mistletoe to place in Every Doorway Of Your House.

But the mice found it first.

The tenth time your family tried to set you up with Newt was also weeks ago. They'd send you on stupid errands that you both know are too fake to be true and you somehow always find Newt wherever you're going.
It eventually became a game for you and him.
The eleventh time your family tried to set you up with Newt was only two weeks ago. Newt's cousin was getting married and his parents forced him to bring a date.

He took Sonya's dates' twin sister.

You couldn't recognize any more attempts than that eleventh, but years later, when you came home from college, your dog tackled someone. The blond boy smiled and reassured you that he was fine, but when you didn't listen he suggested you take him out for coffee as an apology.

Then and only then did you and Newt begin dating.
