Chapter Four.

After school on Thursday I get into work, fully prepared to ask Kim to cover for me. I covered for her last weekend so now it's her turn. Not to mention that I've pretty much already made the plans to go to Aspen.

Before walking in, I take off my flip-flops and put on the shoes from hell. the ones that pinch my toes like a bitch. Guys really are lucky, they don't have to do  petty things, like wear shoes that make you uncomfortable, of skirts that force you to sit with your legs crossed in that uncomfortable position. It's ridiculous. I've always wondered why some girls are so bitchy... After I got a skirt, heals, and walked around for ten minutes; I felt like bitching at somebody.

The first person I see is Becky at the counter working with customers. You know, I don't think that I've ever worked when Becky wasn't. She's a workaholic, for a bridal shop... Is that even possible?

"Hey, Beck, where's Kim?" I ask.

"In the back taking inventory," Becky answer, not looking at me.

I walk to the back of the building and see Kim righting stuff down. Okay, what would be the best way to approach this situation.

"Hey, Kimmy," I start. "What are you doing this weekend?"

Kim sighs. "Hanging out with your brother, why?"

"Umm...I just had a favor to ask of you," I say.

Her forehead scrunches in confusion. "What?" she asks suspiciously.

"Okay, this weekend is my friends birthday and he's taking us to his cabin in Aspen. So I need you to cover for me," I explain quickly.

"Oh my gosh, is this the same friend that's been trying to creep his 'member' into you?" Kim asks bluntly. That's how Kim talks pretty much twenty-four-seven. Leave to my brother to date a girl that has a mouth like Dane Cook.

I laugh. "What? Which one of my friends is trying to do that?"

"That Van guy," Kim answers. "Abby, you have that dude totally whipped. It's kind of cute though...in a pathetic way."

"Kim, no, just no," I say.

"What?" she replies innocently. "It's true. The guy is totally playing with your heart and if you would pay attention, you'd notice."

"I've already told you, Van and I are just friends," I state.

"Yeah, and I've already told you that it's just a strategy for getting in your pants," she says.

I laugh. "You just need to stop, Kim." Van had the chance to get in my pants if that's what he really wanted, but he didn't. "Besides, it's not his birthday. And I'm bringing my now official boyfriend," I smile.

"Girl!" Kim gushes. "Why didn't you start with that? Of course I will cover for you if you're going to be with him!"

Of course Kim likes him, they're going to the same college. It's weird how small of a world this is. I'm dating her study-buddy and she's dating my brother.

"Really, you will?" I check, getting excited.

    "Yeah," she answers.

"Thanks, Kim, that's actually really nice of you," I compliment.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. It's because I'm awesome," she giggles. "So do you mind if I ask you a personal question?"

I shrug. "Is there really anything I can do to stop you?"

"Nope," she smiles. "So, on this little trip, you're going to be spending time with your new boyfriend around the guy that's totally pining after you. Are you aware of how messy things could get? I mean, you sleeping with that Evan dude is going to piss Van off," she explains.

"I'm not sleeping with Evan," I say simply.

Kim smiles. "You should. I mean, I can tell that you're retardedly in like with the BatVan."

I guess Becky told her about the BatVan thing. Actually she probably complained about it because Becky hates it when we take personal calls on the work phone.

"How would sleeping with Evan help me liking BatVan, not saying that I do like him, but, you know, I'm just wondering how it would help," I say quickly.

She smiles devilishly. "Well, you know that expression, 'in order to get OVER somebody, you have to get UNDER somebody else', or if you prefer the top, whatever floats your boat," she says casually.

"Whoa, whoa, wait a minute," I pause, trying to take everything she said in. "Maybe in somebody else's case that would be okay, but for me, it's not. I'm a..." I quiet my voice to say, "virgin."

Her eyes widen. "That's even better because you always hold more attachments to the person you lose your 'virtue' to," she explains.

"Uh-huh..." I reply, pretending to take this into consideration.

"I'm telling you, it'll do the trick. Besides, your virginity isn't even that big of a deal. I mean, as long as you don't lose it to a complete jerk that dumps you outside of a Taco Bell and pours a Baja Blast on you for calling him a Dick-Sucking-Fag," she exclaims, like it's happened to her.

I laugh. "Are you speaking from experience, Kim,"

    Kim nods. "It's quite possible."

"Well, what if that happened to me because of listening to your advise?" I question.

She shakes her head, like it's impossible. "Evan is the sweetest guy on the planet, I would brutally kick his ass if he ever hurt any girl, especially my soul-friend," she laughs. "To be completely honest though," she pauses for a second. "I'm more worried about you hurting him. I mean, this whole BatVan character that you're mixed in with, could totally jeopardize things," she says. "As far as I know, Evan really likes you, so if you hurt him, I'll cut off your toes, same goes for him, deal?"

I laugh, and hold out my hand and we shake on it. "Deal."

Kim fishes around in her purse for something, then places it in my hand. I look down and see a condom in an orange wrapper. I laugh hysterically.

    She giggles. "Safety first, right?"

On my way home from work, the thought of sleep with Evan to get over Van has been on my mind more than it should. I mean, could it work? I mean, when I do the 'deed', I want it to be with somebody that won't be a potential break-up. If I sleep with Evan, then that alone would keep me from breaking up with me.

I just need to sort this all out with the only other girl-friend that I have right now—Lia. I would call her, but I can't do that, no cell phone because of the BatVan, what an ass-face. I hate him so much right now.

Instead, I drive over to Lia's, only to be told by her mother that she's over at a girl named Kylie's. Considering I know that she doesn't have a friend named Kylie, I know that it's code for Kyle. Even though Kylie is one of MY nicknames for Kyle, I find it really funny that she was that clever to tell her mom that. After all, her mom would kill her for being around guys alone, especially on a school-night.

By the time that I get to Kyle's house, his curfew for having friends over is almost up. Gosh, why are some parents so...controlling and strict. Well, I guess it's only because they actually care about their kids.

I don't bother knocking on the front door, I already know that they're in the basement, because Kyle's not allowed to have friends in his room; due to the fact that his mom is a psychotic freak.

I walk around to the side of the house and find the window that leads into the basement. I've had to use it in the last couple months when I came to hang out with Kyle, just to be away from Van.

I tap on the glass a couple of times until somebody comes to open it. It's Kyle.

"Abby, this better be important," Kyle tells me, while I squeeze in through the small opening.

I laugh quietly and look at Lia on the couch whose cheeks are tomato red. "Why, am I interrupting something?" I question. Then move on when neither of them reply, they're both blushing and completely shy. "Anyways, I wanted to ask about the sleeping arrangements on this little trip," I start.

"Okay, what about them?" Kyle asks.

"You two are sharing a room, right?" I ask. "Because I was planning on sharing a room with Evan instead of Lia," I state.

Kyle grins. "Why would you do that, Abby?"

I guess it's time for me to blush. "Well, that way Evan won't have to stay in a room with one of you jerks," I answer as a quick cover up.

"I'm okay with it," Kyle says then looks at Lia. "Only if you are."

Lia nods. "I guess I'm okay with that," she replies nervously.

"I'll even sleep on the floor for you," Kyle says sweetly.

"Aww, that's so cute," I say sarcastically. "Okay, so it's settled then?"

Kyle nods. "I just have a question."

"Oh my god!" Lia screeches. "Are you really going to swipe your V-card with the college guy, Abby?"

"V-card? Abby, you aren't a—" Kyle stops himself. "You're a virgin?" he asks shocked. "After all the hell you watched me suffer through with the guys, you never once jumped in and said 'hey we're in the same boat'? Dude, what the fuck?" he says, with a hint of laughter. "The guys are so finding out about this..." he smiles vindictively, showing that perfect smile for the world to see. "I can't believe after three years, I actually thought that you slept with all of those douche bags that you've dated."

Damn, I hate it when people embarrass me. It's supposed to be the other way around.

    "So are you?" Lia interrogates.

I sigh. "I don't know. I was thinking about it. I mean it doesn't sound like the worst decision I could make."

"Um, yes it is. You can't just sleep with some guy that you've only been on four dates with, 'Kendall'," she replies, calling me by my enemy.

"Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, but Kendall slept with Vance on the first date," Kyle cuts in. "So she beat you by three."

"Nuh-uh, did she really? Van never told me that," I say.

Kyle laughs. "Vance doesn't tell you a lot of things."

    "Oh, yeah, like what?"

"If I told you, Vance would have to kill me, so, yeah..."

"Hey, buddy, I'm practically getting you laid, Vance hasn't because he's a failure. Therefore, you like me more, so I deserve to know," I joke.

Kyle laughs. "No, seriously, I can't tell you, but I'm sure that you'll piece it together this weekend..." he trails off.

I sigh. "Fine, if you want it that way, I'm cutting you off," I tell him. Then I look at Lia to say, "Lia, you are NOT allowed to sleep with this loser until I know what is going on, okay?"

She blushes and laughs hysterically, then salutes me like soldier. "Aye, aye, Captain!"

I smile satisfied. "Well, it was nice doing business with the two of you, I'll see you tomorrow when we leave," I announce. "Bye, guys," I say, starting for the window. I quickly slip my hand into my pocket and pull out what Kim gave me earlier. "You kids don't use this, okay, I expect to see it tomorrow as proof that the both of you still have your hymen!" I joke, then finally leave them in the awkward silence that I know they'll be in because of that. And yes, I know that boys don't have a hymen, but it was my lame excuse for calling Kyle a girl.

I'm so mean, but it's so funny. I like making people feel awkward, before they make me feel awkward. If only I could beat Van at it...
