The day had finally arrived for my ultrasound appointment. I was excited to see the baby for the first time, but I was also nervous. Very, very nervous. I honestly thought I was going to puke, and I had a feeling it wasn't because of the morning sickness.

The appointment was at ten in the morning, and it was currently seven. Ross was still sleeping, but I couldn't sleep anymore. I just laid in bed and stared up at the ceiling. I slowly brought my hand up to my stomach and lightly rubbed it.

"I hope you'll like me as a mommy." I whispered. This was the first time I was actually speaking to my unborn child, and it brought a smile to my face.

I eventually climbed out of bed and got ready for the day, not caring that it was early. I quickly took a shower and changed into a comfortable outfit, which consisted of black yoga pants and a T-shirt. Deciding to leave my hair down in its natural waves, I left my room and made my way towards Ross'. He was sleeping on his stomach, and he was shirtless.

How was my best friend so muscular when all he ate was crap? Not to mention that he never worked out. It didn't make any sense.

Smirking, I jumped on his back, causing him to groan.

"What the hell are you doing?" He asked, his words slightly muffled.

"Waking you up." I answered nonchalantly. "What are you doing?"

He flipped over so he was laying on his back, and I was straddling his waist. I couldn't help but blush at this contact. But why did I blush?

"Well, I was sleeping until some crazy girl decided to jump me." He raised an eyebrow. "And you seriously shouldn't be jumping around, Sky."

I rolled my eyes, dropping down on the bed next to him. "I'm pregnant, Ross. Not broken."

"I just want you and the baby to be safe." He splayed his hand across my stomach.

"We will be." I told him, placing my hand on top of his. "Trust me."

When it was time to go to the OB/GYN, my heart started racing. I was never a fan of the doctor's, so I was pretty nervous. Ross just held my hand the entire way there, reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.

We arrived at the doctor's office about ten minutes before my appointment, and I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork before we could move any further. Once that was done, we were taken back into an exam room. I was given a hospital gown to change into, so once I was changed into that, I hopped onto the examination table, while Ross was seated on the chair beside me.

"I'm so nervous." I said quietly. My hands were shaking, so he grabbed them both and held them tightly in his hands.

"Relax, Sky." He said softly. "Everything will be okay."

The door to the room opened, and in walked in a doctor. It was a woman, and she looked to be in her late thirties. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, and her smile was wide and bright.

"Skylar Evans?" She asked.

I nodded. "That's me." My voice was shaky, and she noticed.

"Nervous?" She asked, slightly amused. I nodded. "Don't worry, Sweetie. You have nothing to be nervous about." I nodded again. "I'm Dr. Wirth." She shook my hand, then turned to Ross. "And you are?"

"I'm Ross Lynch." They shook hands.

"And are you the father?" She asked, her tone nothing but friendly.

Ross scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, no. I'm her best friend."

"The father isn't in the picture." I informed her. "And I'm glad." I muttered under my breath, only loud enough for me to hear.

She nodded. "Okay. Now Skylar, do you know how far along you are?"

"Um, I took a test about three weeks ago, and it said I was five weeks." I said.

"Okay, so you would probably be about eight weeks now." She started writing on a clipboard. "Once we do the ultrasound, we'll be able to know for sure."

"Alright." I bit my lip. I had just noticed that Ross was still holding my hands, but I didn't say anything. It was comforting, and I actually enjoyed having him hold my hands. Why was that?

"So, have you been noticing anything yet, as far as signs or symptoms...changes in appetite or physical appearance?"

"Not really." I answered. "I've just had morning sickness. Oh, and I have to use the bathroom a lot."

"Yeah, she keeps hogging the bathroom." Ross added, causing Dr. Wirth to chuckle.

"I'm assuming you guys live together?" We nodded. "And as for the constant use of the bathroom, that's totally normal. Your uterus is expanding and making room for when the baby grows, which puts pressure on the bladder." She explained.

"That sounds painful." Ross muttered. He was playing with my fingers, and I found it really relaxing.

"Alright, are you ready to see your baby for the first time?" Dr. Wirth asked, smiling at me.

"Yes," I breathed out, a smile on my own face. I was no longer nervous, but extremely exciting.

"Great. Now since you're still pretty early, an internal ultrasound will give us a much better detail of everything inside. Are you okay with that?"

I nodded, then turned to Ross. "You don't have to stay for this part, you know? You can wait outside if you want?"

He shook his head. "I'm not going anywhere, Sky. Unless you want me to leave."

"No. Stay." I was begging, but I didn't care. I didn't want to do this alone.

"Okay." He murmured, a smile on his face.

"Alright," Dr. Wirth spoke up. I had completely forgotten that she was in the room. Wow, pregnancy brain. "Skylar, just lay down and prop your legs up on the stirrups."

I did as she told, only feeling slightly awkward. I was very grateful that Ross was seated by my head.

After setting up the equipment and inserting the transducer, which she had to explain to us what that was, she flicked on the monitor, and blurry 3-D images appeared on the screen. She started telling us what was on the screen and how my uterus would be expanding every day. I just nodded as she spoke.

"Now it's time to take a closer look at the reason you're here." She said, smiling. She pressed a few buttons, and zoomed in on my uterus. Wow, that was weird to say. "And here we are..."

Tears filled my eyes as a small, and somewhat blurry little human in a sea of black flashed over the screen. "Oh, my god." I whispered. Ross grabbed my hand again and gave it a squeeze.

"Congratulations, Skylar." Dr. Wirth smiled at me. All I could do was smile back.

"Everything's okay, though?" Ross asked. "The baby's healthy?"

Dr. Wirth nodded, turning her attention back to the screen. "Yes, it's healthy. Here's the head." She pointed to it. "And you can see little arm buds, as well as the little legs." She traced her finger over the monitor.

"Wow." I murmured. "So um, how far along am I? Was I right?"

She nodded. "Yes, you're almost nine weeks along. Now, since it's too early, you can't actually hear the heartbeat. But you can see it." Dr. Wirth focused on the embryo and an even clearer image of the baby appeared. "See the white flicker?"

I nodded, my eyes focused on the monitor. "I can't believe this is happening." I was in shock.

"I know you're young, Sky, but I'm so happy you got pregnant." Ross whispered in my ear. I opened my mouth to say something, but I didn't get the chance.

"I'll print you a bunch of pictures." Dr. Wirth said. "And would you like a video on DVD?"

"Yes, please." I murmured.

"Okay, I'll be right back." She patted my knee, signaling that I could sit up. "I'll be right back."

As soon as she walked out, I let a couple of tears roll down my face. "I can't believe this is happening."

"Are those happy tears or sad tears?" Ross asked, standing up so he could wipe away the tears.

I chuckled thickly. "Happy tears. Definitely happy." I looked at the monitor that had a frozen picture of my baby. "I can't believe this is actually happening."

"It's pretty surreal, isn't it?" His voice was filled with amazement as he looked at the monitor.

If someone who wasn't Dr. Wirth walked in and saw us, they would assume Ross and I were a couple who were having a baby. The thought of that made my body tingle, but I didn't know why.

Dr. Wirth returned a few minutes later, holding a stack of photos and a square case with what I assumed was the DVD of the ultrasound. She handed them to me and smiled. "These are for you."

"Thank you." I smiled.

"My pleasure." She smiled back. "So based on my measurements, I would estimate that you conceived around February 14th, which means your due date is November 3rd."

"Wow." I breathed out. "Okay. And everything is okay?"

Dr. Wirth smiled reassuringly. "Everything is just perfect. You don't smoke or drink, so that's good. Drink enough water, because that's extremely important. And do you work?"

I nodded. "It's part time, but I work at least twenty-five hours a week."

"And we both go to college full time." Ross added.

Dr. Wirth nodded. "If possible, talk to your boss about cutting back your hours. Carrying a baby takes a lot of energy out of you, so getting plenty of rest is important as well."

"Okay." I nodded.

"Do you have any questions?"

"I don't think so." I answered before looking at Ross.

He raised his hands up. "Don't look at me. You're the one who's pregnant."

Dr. Wirth and I laughed. "Alright, well once you change back into your clothes, you're free to go. Just make another appointment for two months." She told me.

"Will do." I said. "Thank you."

"No problem, Sweetie." She smiled. "And congratulations."

"Thank you."

After she left, I quickly changed out of the hospital gown and put my clothes back on. Before walking out of the room, I made sure Ross had the pictures and DVD, which he held up. I made my next appointment before walking out of the doctor's office, Ross right beside.

"Can we stop by Rydel and Ellington's?" I asked, as we approached the car. "Rydel knows I had the appointment today, so she wants to see pictures."

Ross nodded. "Sure. I just really hope she won't squeal like a little girl. She can seriously make a person go deaf."

I giggled. "I wonder if Ellington wears earplugs in the bedroom."

Ross looked at me with a horrified expression on his face. "Why would you say that?" He shuddered. "That's my sister."

"Grow up, Ross." I continued to giggle.

I watched as Rydel stared at the sonogram picture in amazement. Ross and Ellington were out in the backyard talking, and Rydel and I were in the kitchen.

"I can't believe this little baby is inside of you." She murmured.

I glanced down at my stomach before looking back at her. "I can't believe it either." I took a sip of my lemonade, letting the refreshing drink quench my thirst.

"How was Ross during the whole thing?" She finally put the picture down, her full attention on me.

"He was great." I replied truthfully. "Honestly, he was acting like he was the father."

"And how does that make you feel?"

I couldn't help but smile. "Pretty great." My smile fell as I continued to speak. "Del, is it wrong that I'm happy that Ben's not in the picture? I mean, what kind of person is happy that the biological father isn't going to be in their son or daughters life? I must be a complete nutcase."

She chuckled softly. "You're not a nutcase, Sky. And after what Ben did to you, I'm not surprised that you don't want him a part of this."

I bit my lip. "But I feel like such a bitch. Because of what Ben and I did, I'm going to be a mom. And because Ross is Ross, he's stuck in the middle. I mean, why would he even offer to help me raise my baby?"

Rydel placed a hand on my arm and sighed. "Sky, I love you, but you're blind if you don't see it."

"See what?" I titled my head in confusion.

"See that Ross is in love with you."

Kind of a cliffhanger, I guess. I'm dying for Skylar and Ross to get together already, but I don't want that happening quite yet. I need to add a little drama before that can happen, so be patient. Vote and comment!
