Taman Negara, National Park if translated, is one of the oldest rainforests in the whole world. Taman Negara is estimated to be over 130 million years old. Older than the Amazonia! (also known as the Amazon rainforest). This National Park is the home to quite some rare animals. Animals like the Malayan tiger, Malayan gaur and the Asian elephant. As well as birds like the red junglefowl, great argus and the rare Malayan peacock-peasant. The Tahan River is preserved to protect a type of fish; the Malayan mahseer.
There are seven major types of forests in Malaysia. The hill dipterocarp forest, the lowland dipterocarp forest, the upper dipterocarp forest, mangrove forest, peat swamp forest, the oak-laurel forest and the montane ericaceous forest.
