Pernico :)

Prologue

"Percy, this is your cousin Nico", my mom said, gesturing to the small dark haired boy beside her.
I stared at my supposed cousin.
He didn't smile or wave, just kinda stood cowering behind my mother.
"Uh, hi", I told him, having clue what to make of my extremely antisocial cousin.
"Nico, say hi to your cousin, Percy", she said, in that kind gentle voice she had.
The boy just shook his head vigorously, and ran behind the couch.
My mom laughed.
"Oh well, he'll come around. Do you want some cake now?"
I nodded.
Today was my 8th birthday and my mom had promised me a blue cake.
She smiled and lead me over to the table where a gigantic blue cake with blue icing sat, around it were heaps of other assorted blue desserts.
I sat down in a chair and kicked my legs back and forth against it.
"Mom, who's Nico?"
My mom looked at me and smiled her cheery smile.
"He's your cousin, Percy"
I gave her a confused expression.
"If he's my cousin, why didn't he say hi to me?"
She gave me a sad look and said: "How big of a slice of cake do you want, honey?"
Ignoring her question, I looked at her.
Waiting for an answer.
She sighed.
"Well honey, he's not like you. He lives a very different life than yours...", my mom's voice trailed off and she slowly lifted out the first piece of the cake.
Then, she placed it in front of me and smiled.
"Want some ice-cream? It will just take me a second to dye it blue."
I nodded and she took off a little too quickly to the kitchen.
As I ate, I thought about how strange my cousin was.
I mean, he hadn't even said hi to me.
It was like he resented me or something...
"Here you go, honey", my mom replied, placing a big bowl of blue ice-cream next to my cake plate.
She watched as I began eating my cake and ice-cream again and occasionally stared across the room to where my cousin sat huddled up behind the couch.
"But, what do you mean, mom?", I asked, scraping my bowl clean.
She sighed again and seemed to tense.
"Nothing Percy, I'll tell you when you're older... Do you wanna open your presents now?"
I nodded, slightly confused and headed back to the living room with her.
Wondering all the while, why she wouldn't just tell me...
