Scene IV
Enter Lucentio
Lucentio: O' where be Tranio? Where are thee, cruel servant of mine? To abandon thy liege in his time of need? Unforgivable.
No answer
Lucentio: .... However, perhaps I have been brash in my harshness. The former fire which raged at the thought of thy desertion flickers out.
Enter Vincentio with a sack
Lucentio: O' Tranio, come hither. I can fathom without you no longer. Thou are no useless wretch. Forgive me, I have done thee wrong. Never had I foreseen this,— I pray thou do not mean to actually leave my stead. Hahah, such ludicrous sentiments,— you would never! Hahah, ahahahahh!
Vincentio: Son
Lucentio: Dearest Tranio, just reveal yourself! I can without thee no longer. There, I utter it again. O' Tranio, I cannot live without thee!
Vincentio: Preposterous
Lucentio: Father? What mean you..?
Vincentio: No beloved son of mine shall beg a servant in such a pathetic way.
Lucentio: O' Father, have thou seen my Tranio?
Vincentio: Hm, I have. Though thou not need worry about that foul slump anymore
Lucentio: Whatever do you mean?!
The sack is thrown on the floor by Vincentio
Lucentio: By God,— Father, WHAT DID YOU DO?!?
The head of Tranio rolls out onto the floor
Lucentio: TRANIO-!! Oh, Tranio!!
Lucentio cradles the severed head of Tranio
Lucentio: You- you-! What the devil is wrong with you?! How could thee lay hands on Tranio in such a way?!
Vincentio: I told thee, son. I would kill the twat' for impersonating my son. Thou shall thank me,— such a loathsome, petulant swine. Such a unforgivable crime, to want thy master in such a... scandalous light
Lucentio sobs
Lucentio: What... what are you on about?
Vincentio: Such a horrible thing,— impersonating thy Master and falling in infatuation with him
Lucentio: Infatuation..?
Vincentio: Yes, he would have us all burn in Hell. Thank me son, and I will be on my way.
Lucentio: I'd sooner take my own life than thank thee for taking my dearest friend!
Vincentio: Tsk tsk, you shall learn to be grateful. Farewell son, I shall fetch a servant to clean this mess.
Exeunt Vincentio
Lucentio: Oh, Tranio... my dearest Tranio... forgive me, I have done you wrong. So, so wrong. Thou were the greatest thing I ever had,— my best friend, my one and only. Forgive me, for it was your love I never recognized, your loyalty I never praised. I pray, may the Heavenly Father forgive us,— I would gladly take thy punishment ten fold, should it ease your torment. If I could, I would take away thy pain in a heartbeat
Forgive me, dearest. Forgive me.
Curtain draws
The end. ♥️
