NAVIGATING THE BUSTLING STREETS OF NEW YORK CITY, percy and andie carried the weight of their imminent encounter with their parents that was either to be, or not to be.

city lights flickered above them, casting a warm glow on the pavement as they walked in silence. the crowded streets of new york enveloped them in a symphony of honks, chatter, and the rhythmic shuffle of hurried footsteps. skyscrapers towered overhead, their glass facades reflecting the myriad stories unfolding at ground level.

each step seemed to carry them deeper into the heart of the city, where the pulse of life echoed in the storefronts, street vendors, and glimpses of diverse faces passing by. amidst the urban chaos, percy and andie navigated the labyrinth of memories and apprehensions.

uncomfortably tugging on the strap of her backpack, andie spoke up. "percy, are you at all..." her voice quivered with a trace of vulnerability, mirroring the palpable uncertainty that surrounded their quest to find their parents. "nervous?"

percy nodded. "of course, i'm nervous." he admitted. "what if she's not there, and we have to go right back to camp? what if hades backed out on our deal?" the young demigod's anxieties reverberated against the city's cacophony.

andie, lost in her thoughts, stared at the ground as she walked. "yeah, i'm nervous about that too." she admitted. "but also, what if my dad really is there?" she asked. "i mean, i've spent the last ten years of my life imagining this moment. what if it's not what i expected?" she asked him, her voice trembling. "ten years is a long time. what if i'm not ready?"

percy was silent for a moment, trying to find the right words to say. "ten years is a long time." he echoed. "why would you wait another second?"

andie sighed, staring back at him. "wow. schooled by a twelve-year-old." she said quietly. "new low, andie. new low."

"i'm almost thirteen, you know." percy teased, a feeble attempt to inject a bit of humor into the tense atmosphere.

the girl rolled her eyes. "of course, i know." she told him. "you keep reminding me." she looked down at the ground, and couldn't help but let out a laugh.

percy arched an eyebrow, inviting her to share her amusement. "what?"

andie shook her head. "i'm just thinking about when i got that prophecy all those years ago." she told him. "how different i thought everything would be."

percy's curiosity sparked. "how so?"

the older girl sighed. "well, i thought the other half of my fate wouldn't be 'almost thirteen'." she told him. "i figured he'd be my age. and we'd save the world, maybe fall in love in the process."

percy's voice softened, a genuine empathy coloring his words. "i'm sorry that didn't work out."

andie shook her head, rolling her eyes. "no, percy. the point is, that was stupid." she said sternly shaking off the fantasy that had captured her for so many years. "i mean, you're not at all what i expected, but i guess the universe knows what it's doing sometimes." she gave him a small smile. "i'm glad i got an annoying little brother out of the deal."

a tender smile graced percy's lips. "i'm glad i got an annoying big sister, too."

THE AIR FELT THICK WITH ANTICIPATION AS ANDIE STOOD BEFORE THE DOOR OF HER CHILDHOOD APARTMENT. ten years of separation weighed on her, and the nervous knot in her stomach tightened. the uncertainty of her father's reaction and the lingering fear that hades might have betrayed them loomed over her, casting a shadow on what should have been a moment of reunion.

she took a deep breath, her trembling hand reaching for the doorknob. slowly, she turned it, the creaking sound echoing her hesitation.

as the door opened, andie hesitated before stepping inside. the apartment, frozen in time, greeted her with a flood of memories.

the piano, where apollo had taught her the enchantment song in her dream, stood as a silent witness to the mystical connection she had with the divine.

the couch, where she had seen her parents both in love and bidding one another a tearful goodbye, held the echoes of a past she could never fully reclaim.

nostalgia wrapped around her like a bittersweet embrace. her eyes lingered on each piece of furniture, each corner that held a piece of her childhood.

yet, the fear persisted, gnawing at her that this might all be an illusion, a cruel trick orchestrated by the gods. she turned to close the door, a glance backward to imprint the scene in her mind. as the door clicked shut, a voice behind her shattered the stillness.

"andromeda."

she turned, and there he was – her father, looking at her with eyes filled with a mix of disbelief and overwhelming joy.

for a moment, time hung suspended, and andie couldn't believe he was real.

in a heartbeat, her bag dropped to the floor, forgotten, as she ran into his waiting arms. the embrace was tight, their tears mingling in a cathartic release of years of separation.

she hadn't felt the hug of her father in half of her life, and as they clung to each other, andie realized the depth of the void that had occupied her heart for those long years. his embrace was a sanctuary, a refuge from the trials and tribulations of her life. in his arms, she found solace, the kind that only a parent could provide. tears streamed down her face, a mixture of joy and the profound sorrow of time lost.

"i thought i'd never see you again." mikey whispered, his voice choked with emotion. andie tightened her grip, as if afraid that letting go would shatter the fragile reality of their reunion.

in the warmth of that moment, the scars left by years of longing began to heal. she had yearned for this connection, for the simple pleasure of feeling the heartbeat of her father.

he pulled back slightly, cupping her face in his hands, his eyes searching hers as if to etch this moment into his memory. "you came back," he said, his voice filled with wonder. "my little bambi came back."

andie's heart ached with a profound mixture of love and regret. the weight of the past pressed against her, but in the presence of her father, she felt the promise of a new beginning.

yet, the scars of separation ran deep, and as they stood there, locked in an embrace that defied the passage of time, andie couldn't help but mourn for the moments they could never reclaim. "i'm sorry, daddy." she managed through her sobs. "i'm sorry i took so long."

his response was a warm chuckle, pulling her back into his arms. "you've gotten so big."

her heart swelled with emotion, and she cried even harder, feeling the weight of a decade lifting off her shoulders.

as they stood there, locked in a tearful embrace, andie's eyes wandered to the window.

through the blur of her tears, she saw it.

a white dove perched on the terrace, a symbol she knew well.

she smiled through the tears, her mother's silent presence affirming that what she had always hoped and dreamed for had happened today.

her family was finally reunited.

IT WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. the rich aroma of sally jackson's cooking wafted through the apartment she and percy shared, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for the sunday dinners that had become tradition since his return.

mikey, andy, percy, and sally sat around the table, sharing stories and laughter that echoed with a sense of belonging. the tension that had once gripped andie had given way to a newfound comfort in the company of these familiar faces.

"so, you two excited for school to start?" mikey asked the demigods.

"no." percy groaned, putting his head into his hands. "seventh grade is gonna be a drag, just like sixth grade was a drag."

andie furrowed her brows at the boy, before turning to sally and mikey with a smile. "well, i'm excited."

sally raised her eyebrows. "that's right! you're starting college." she remarked. "what are you studying?"

"english and astronomy." she answered with a smile.

percy furrowed his brow. "english?" he asked. "aren't you dyslexic?"

"aren't you a little shit?" she snapped back.

percy's jaw dropped. "woah!"

mikey sighed. "language."

andie pursed her lips. "sorry, dad." she said, before turning back to percy. "you're not a little shit."

"andie." her father warned.

with a chuckle, sally defused the situation, standing up. "that's okay, he can be sometimes." she said, ruffling her son's hair as she passed him.

"mom!" percy exclaimed.

andie, savoring the warmth of the scene, couldn't help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for the family moments she had missed for a decade. though the jackson's weren't related to the lazaro's, they had made their own little family. each time they laughed together, or behaved the way a real family would, it seemed to erase the years of separation that had haunted her.

sally smiled down at her son. "why don't you show mikey the new levels you unlocked?"

percy smirked. "oh, mr. l, i finally unlocked rainbow road!" he excitedly exclaimed, getting up from the dining table and racing towards the living room.

mikey smiled. "i was a beast at rainbow road when andie and i used to play on the wii." he told the boy, following him.

"andie, you playing?" percy called, having already begun to set up the game.

sally chuckled. "actually, i could use her help setting the table." she said.

andie nodded. "sure thing."

as andie and sally worked together to set the table, putting out plates and silverware, sally couldn't help but steal a glance towards the younger girl as she carefully folded the napkins. even though it was a menial task, sally had noticed that andie did everything with care and a sense of pride.

the mother smiled warmly at andie. "i never got the chance to thank you, andie." she said.

andie furrowed her brow. "for what?"

"percy told me all about your quest." she explained. "i can't tell you how grateful i am for the way you protected my son when i couldn't."

andie, arranging the silverware, looked up with a genuine smile. "it was no problem." she told her. "he protected me just as much as i protected him. we make a good team."

sally's eyes reflected appreciation. "you're a remarkable friend to him, andie. he's lucky to have you looking out for him."

the girl shrugged, her modesty evident. "we look out for each other. that's what friends do, right?"

as they finished setting the table, the moment of quiet camaraderie was interrupted by the distant sounds from the living room. mikey's voice echoed, "oh, blue shell! no fair!"

percy's retort followed. "deal with it, old man."

andie and sally shared a chuckle, their eyes meeting in shared amusement. "is it weird?" sally remarked. "how alike — "

"yeah." andie interjected. "it's starting to scare me."

and dinner was served.

the warmth of the kitchen, filled with gratitude, friendship, and the clatter of plates, became a snapshot of the bonds that connected them. andie couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging, surrounded by some of the people who mattered most to her.

andie laughed, enjoying the easy banter that flowed around the dinner table. the tension that had lingered in the air earlier had dissipated, replaced by the warmth of familial bonds being rekindled.

in a moment of lull, sally excused herself, mentioning a photo she wanted to share with them. as she disappeared into her room, percy exchanged a nervous glance with andie, sensing that the revelation held significant weight.

andie turned to percy, curiosity evident in her eyes. "what's she talking about?"

percy shrugged. "no idea."

both of their eyes shot over to mikey, who quickly avoided their eyes, trying to look anywhere else.

the man cleared his throat awkwardly, feigning sudden interest in the pattern on the wallpaper. "so, uh, did you guys hear about that new sushi place downtown?"

andie exchanged a bemused glance with percy, sensing mikey's evasion tactics. "nice try, dad." she told him. "what's going on?"

"it's supposed to be really good." mikey continued, ignoring his daughter's question. "we should try it sometime."

percy chuckled. "come on, mr. l. we're all friends here." he said. "that place opened four years ago."

mikey let out a theatrical sigh, realizing he was cornered. "have a little patience, guys."

just as he finished his sentence, sally returned, holding an old photograph in her hands. the edges were slightly worn, but the image within spoke volumes. sally grinned, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes. "look what i found."

andie and percy leaned in, their eyes widening as they saw the picture. it was a snapshot from years ago, capturing a little blonde baby and an older girl with long dark hair.

two children, percy and andie, were laughing and playing together.

andie's jaw dropped, realization sinking in. "no way," she started. "percy, is that us?"

percy's eyes widened, his gaze fixed on the photo. "i think it is."

mikey nodded. "it is." he told them. "sally and i used to take you to play at the playground near the smoke shops when you were kids." he explained to them. "we knew of each other because of our situations."

andie's eyes widened with realization. "the playground next to the smoke shops." she echoed, remembering the little blonde boy. "that was you?"

she was much older than percy when this happened, obviously, given their six year age difference, so she had a much clearer memory of the playground than he did.

the revelation sparked a flood of memories for andie. the playground, once a sanctuary from the dangers that lurked in the demigod world, now symbolized a shared childhood between two individuals destined for extraordinary paths.

sally's eyes held a mixture of emotions. "after the subway derailment," she said, clearing her throat. "percy and i moved in with gabe for protection." percy's eyes hardened at the very mention of his stepfather — who had been taken care of by the head of medusa. "i didn't want to risk exposing percy to the dangers that followed us." she explained. "it wasn't the best time, but i never stopped looking for you, andie, hoping you were alright."

andie's gaze shifted from the photo to sally, her eyes welling up with tears. the weight of the revelation settled in, bridging the gap of a decade and illuminating the interconnectedness of their lives.

unbeknownst to them, the threads of andie and percy's destinies had been intricately woven long before they became conscious of their roles in the grand tapestry of existence. like an invisible string that defied time and space, their lives had been subtly guided toward a shared purpose.

the playground was just a small chapter in the epic saga of their intertwined destinies. from childhood playmates to the heroes of prophecies, their connection ran deeper than the surface of their conscious awareness. it was as if the gods themselves, with their omniscient gaze, had crafted a narrative that entwined their fates in a dance of destiny.

and now, as they stood at the precipice of a new chapter in their lives, the invisible string pulled them closer, binding them together in a journey that transcended the boundaries of mortal understanding.

percy, sensing the depth of andie's emotions, reached out and gently squeezed her hand, a silent reassurance that they navigated this shared journey together.

mikey, sensing the weight of the moment, broke the silence with a lighthearted tone. "yeah, and we used the smell of the potheads to masked your demigod scent from monsters." he revealed to them. "clever, right?"

percy's face turned a shade of red as andie burst into laughter. sally joined in, the shared memories creating a tapestry of connection between the past and the present.

andie wasn't sure what the future held for her.

but she knew she could handle it as long as she stuck with the other half of her fate.
