"Jungkook." A calm voice from behind made Jungkook stop on his track who just got out of the exam hall, when he turned around he was met with a familiar face and it was Yoongi.
"Good afternoon, hyung." Jungkook utters, even though he tried to flash a fake smile but he couldn't, his body and mind were no longer in his control. On the contrary, Yoongi stayed silent for a moment, busy observing him which made him confused a bit. But before he could have said anything, Yoongi gave him a warm smile before speaking up.
"How was your exam?" When the question was asked Jungkook got puzzled, and couldn't understand what he was supposed to say. He, himself, doesn't know if it went good or bad. He was able to write down all the answers this time but he wasn't satisfied with how he wrote them.
"Good..."
An unexpected awkward silence soon surrounded them, even though everyone around them was busy talking, all those sounds felt like nothing to them. It lasted until a boy suddenly appeared cursing at someone.
"I knew that professor has some issue with me! How could he keep my answer sheet for 20 damn minutes!! I couldn't write a whole damn question!" Stomping his feet on the ground, the frowning boy stood beside Yoongi who had a quick change of expression.
"I'll talk to you later, Jungkook. Take care." Saying that Yoongi left both of the boys, Jimin narrowed his eyes and couldn't understand the reason why the man was acting like this with him for a few days after they went to have dinner.
"Did you guys have any kind of fight or something?"
"You also feel that way!? It's so obvious that he's ignoring me but I don't know why. I shouldn't have drank too much that day." Jimin lets out a sigh, dropping his shoulders. Upon hearing him Jungkook raised his eyebrow at him.
"You're so damn creepy when you're drunk. I just hope you didn't do something weird to hyung."
"Huh! You think I didn't? I think I surely did something hella weird that made him this mad at me or else why would he ignore me?" Jimin ruffles his hair to mess it up, his brain is about to explode from all this. First he had to study all day long because of exams and now this!
"Is there a possibility you two made love.." Jungkook utters, side eying the other boy who looked like his soul was sucked out right there.
"No way, you know Yoongi hyung likes someone else. Even though we don't know who it is, it's definitely not me. He doesn't even like to hang out with me that much, he's always irritated by me." Jimin explains, he couldn't believe Jungkook even said something as dumb as this.
"Then maybe it's nothing. You're just overthinking. He also sometimes ignores me."
"Yes, let's not waste our time talking about him. I have some hot tea to spill." Both boys start walking by the corridor while talking.
"Have you heard about Wonhyung, Jiyeong and Jesung?"
"What about them?" Jungkook narrowed his eyes at Jimin, it's true that he was kinda surprised after not encountering any of them for two weeks, not even for once as if they vanished from the world.
"Everyone is saying they went missing." Jungkook paused on his track upon hearing the news.
They went missing? How? Why? He couldn't help but this somehow made him think of Taehyung who had the bravery to beat Jesung inside the institution run by Jesung's own father. It's so weird, the whole situation is super weird. Even though he didn't want it, his mind was continuously wondering if it was somehow connected with Taehyung.
"Isn't it weird how three of them went missing at the same time? Could it be done by the serial killer? Hasn't your dad said anything to you?" Jungkook just shook his head in response, he was zoning out and it was so obvious for everyone around him.
"But somehow I feel like it's not the serial killer who kidnapped them. The serial killer never targeted anyone around our age." Seeing his friend driving deeper into this topic Jimin lets out a sigh before speaking up again.
"Maybe someone they messed up with just did this to take revenge or scare them. Let's not think too much about i-" Jimin couldn't even finish his sentence as Jungkook cut him off all of a sudden.
"Go home on your home, I have something to do, bye." Jungkook said in a hurry as he ran away in a flash of light and Jimin, who got dumbfounded, just stood there with a poker face.
Taehyung should still be in the institution. He had an afternoon class today which should have ended ten or fifteen minutes ago. Even though the man doesn't like staying at his workplace once his working time is done, Jungkook just hopes he will stay a bit longer today. Just today.
Everything he has been doing was quite dumb, he knows it but what else good could come from him when his mental state was like that? Jungkook ran as fast as he could, eyes roaming around to spot a familiar person. It didn't take much time for him to get himself out of the building, standing by the entrance Jungkook looked around, panting to catch his breath.
After looking around for quite a minute, Jungkook finally spotted a figure which was very similar to Taehyung's, he was very sure it was him. Jungkook takes a deep breath, he closes his eyes for a moment to calm himself down and pull himself together.
It's almost been a month since he has been running away from Taehyung, the man stopped coming to his house for a couple days. Jungkook was slowly getting better, his mental condition was getting better. Now he could think everything with a proper state of mind but still his mind wasn't under his control.
Jungkook felt like he was being selfish, he was only thinking about himself. Taehyung always tried to be with him, letting him know he would be always waiting for him but Jungkook couldn't run to him. He was afraid, he didn't know with what face he would approach the man. At this point he was just running away because of his own good.
He was just being selfish.
Taehyung deserves something better than this, someone better than him who won't be as selfish as him, only thinking about himself, his own feelings. Not caring how his actions are going to affect people around him.
Taehyung definitely doesn't deserve someone like, at least not like him.
This thought got even stronger when he opened his eyes only to see a very familiar woman standing next to Taehyung, the bright smile on her face gace Jungkook a harsh reality check. Everything got blank for a moment, only those two people could be seen and it was enough to let Jungkook know where he belonged.
The drumming heart got calm in no time as the boy just stayed put, his breath got stuck in his throat. Taehyung's face was as calm as usual, he always had this same face that made everyone wonder if the man ever laughed or frowned. And Jungkook was the only one to encounter Taehyung doing those. He smiled because of him and he frowned a bit because of him as well.
Every action of Taehyung's always made it so clear to Jungkook that he's very special to him but what about him? He couldn't even say anything about his life to him, he was keeping a big truth hidden from him. Taehyung has the right to know, he should know about everything that Jungkook had to go through. What if he changes his mind after knowing the truth?
What if he can't accept Jungkook? Jungkook was just being selfish for not telling him all this, he just doesn't want Taehyung to stay away from him. But now his own self was ignoring the man.
There were hundreds of students roaming around with their friends, busy talking with each other yet Taehyung got alerted. He could feel the boy's silent presence around him. When he roamed his eyes around, Jungkook was fast Enough to hide himself behind a wall which successfully prevented him from getting caught by the man.
Jungkook stayed put there for quite a moment, hands tightly gripping onto his bag as if his life right now only depends on it. After some time, Jungkook peeked out his head to see if the man was still there but just as he expected Taehyung had left already. Jungkook's chest felt something heavy above it but was unable to reveal the reason.
He just stood there, paused on his truck, eyes glued to the floor, mind occupied with only the thoughts of Taehyung's. He wonders if the rumors were right, he wonders if Taehyung was really going out with doctor Jeong, he wonders if Taehyung really has something with her.
He wonders.
"Mr. Kang, please calm down first." A worried voice of a mad man in his mid forties echoed through the silent room dressed in a police uniform. He was comfortably settled on his chair a moment ago until a man stormed into his chamber furiously, face red from anger.
"How can you expect me to calm down, huh!? My son is missing for three damn weeks! And your minions couldn't even find out where the hell he is!" The man who was introduced as Mr. Kang shouts with his harsh tone, slamming his hands on the table, furious eyes sending glares. He was forced to turn around his head to shoot his eyes at the newcomer who just entered the room.
"Officer Woo, I thought you were smarter than this. What the hell is your team doing! They can't even find any damn clue!" Mr. Kang shouts on Officer Woo's face, who has a calm face, his patience was thick as usual.
"We're trying our best, sir. I will also request you to cooperate with us."
"Trying? I don't want to see you and your team trying! Give me a damn result! Find my son as soon as possible. If my son doesn't come back home in a week, be prepared to say goodbye to your so-called job!" Saying that Mr. Kang stormed out of the room as Officer Woo heard the Senior Superintendent of police let out a deep sigh.
"Officer Woo, why are you taking so much to solve such a simple task? Close this case as soon as possible, I don't want any more chaos."
"I'm sorry, sir. I was a bit busy with the serial killer case." Hearing him, the older man clicked his tongue.
"It's been more than half a year and still you guys couldn't find the serial killer. How long are you going to stretch this case? How come all of your team's brains couldn't beat a single man's brain?" His pure irritation was very visible on his voice and face.
"Take a break from that case, solve this one first. I can't get any more fearful."
"Alright, sir." Bowing down at the man to show respect, Officer Woo gets himself out of the room and closes the door before he lets out a sigh in disbelief. Even though he was a bit annoyed by the fact that he was temporarily kicked out from the serial killer case which is the most important case for now, his face was still calm as if the SSP just called him to praise him for his great performance.
"Jungwook, wait for me in the car. We have to go to XXX institution."
Woo Hajoon known as Officer Woo to everyone was very professional with his job, he was used to getting compliments from everyone around him that he's so good at everything, there's nothing he can't do perfectly. But now it seems like it was just an exaggeration.
There's no one in this world who is here in everything, everyone has flaws but sometimes a lot of people can hide it all perfectly which leads the other people around him to think that they're perfect. And Hajoon was surely one of them. He has been keeping up with a perfect personality he has created only for this society.
"Sir, have you found any clue about the serial killer?" When the question was asked by a younger police officer who was driving the police cruiser, Hajoon shifted his gaze from the outside to him.
"No, it's about the missing case." Hearing him Jungwook let out an oh as he got busy driving again while Hajoon shifted his gaze outside again, delving into the serial killer case.
It was probably six or seven months ago when the first body was found, as usual the dead body was found in one of the most crowded places in the town as if the killer wanted to let everyone know about his presence in the town. There was no fingerprint found in any of the dead bodies which made it harder for them.
Some bodies were cleaned nearly as if their dead body took a long bath or shower. The CC cameras which capture everything that's happening couldn't have a clear version of the killer. The killer was continuously playing with their brain. Hajoon has encountered someone like this for the first time, a criminal, murderer who is not afraid of getting caught.
This Hajoon wondered if the killer was very professional in this because his actions were continuously indicating at this conclusion. While he was busy thinking about all of these, the police cruiser was inside a certain institution. Hajoon was dragged out of his thoughts when the car was forced to stop all of a sudden and soon someone started banging on the rear glass window, telling the person sitting in the driving seat to open the window.
"Where do you think you're driving this car at, huh?? Have you mistaken it as a plane or do you think this ground is the sky? Who the hell gave you the driver license when you can't even drive properly!" The shouting coming from the person grabbed Hajoon's attention while on the other hand the younger police officer got offended by the harsh words thrown at him in no time.
"I think you're the person who has forgotten where to walk and not. You're walking in the middle of a road, wearing airpods, how can you blame it all on me!?" Jungwook defends himself because he sees no reason to blame him for this, he has been horned so many times but this boy didn't even budge! How could he? He's sure he didn't even hear him properly.
The sudden argument made Hajoon tilt his head a bit to have a clear version of the boy because Jungwook's head was hiding his face.
"For your kind information, it is strictly forbidden to drive any kind of vehicle inside the institution. There is a convenient parking lot right beside the main gate, why didn't you park your car there? Have you given your legs to the government that you can not walk in?" Jungkook huffed from anger, first of all he was very late, second of all he somehow managed to finish his assignment before the deadline and there's like ten minutes left to submit it.
After the time ends, his professor is surely not accepting his assignment. That means he will fail in two subjects.
It's not only this, while he was running towards the building he had to cross this road where usually no cars pass by, it's only used by the people. And out of the blue a car suddenly appeared, he was almost about to crash under the car if it didn't break in time. And most importantly the papers of his assignment were lying on the road here and there because the boy had fallen on the ground from shock.
Now who the hell is going to arrange all the papers serially and help him to submit it before the deadline? Of course no one. He is failing this subject. He was about to blast from anger, the frown on his face was very visible to everyone as his face got red.
"The guard didn't say anything when we entered the car. Now stop this drama, we have serious things to do. Can't you see we're police?" Jungkook got even more angry after hearing the man, first of all he almost hit Jungkook with his car and now he didn't even bother to apologize? If he's a police officer, who the hell gives a damn about it?
Being a police officer doesn't justify whatever he does.
"Even if you're a police officer, so what? Do you know who my dad is, huh?"
"We have no internet to talk to you any farther, please move." Jungkook shoots death glares at the man before he runs towards the other side of the car only to burst open the door, revealing the man sitting in the passenger seat, who was Hajoon.
"Get out of the car right now, or else I will drag you both out of it!" Jungkook shouts out of his lungs, furious eyes busy sending glares at the man who was puzzled for a moment but soon he turned his head to look at the other man.
"Sir, he's a mad boy. Just close the door." The more Jungwook talked the more Jungkook was getting furious, at this point he wanted to pull out each strand of hair in his head.
"Get out right now or I'll hit you both!" Jungkook threatened, holding the water bottle made of steel. Hajoon observed the situation with his calm face for a moment before he opened his mouth to speak up.
"Get down, we're at the fault here." Hearing the officer, Jungwook looked at him in disbelief.
"Sir, bu-"
"Don't stretch the matter any farther." Finishing his sentence Hajoon got himself out of the car as Jungwook followed him with a frowning face. Once both of them were out they were signaled to pick up some papers lying around as the boy himself was picking them up one by one.
"Do I have to send you both a grand invitation? Pick them up before they're ruined. If I fail this subject, I'm suing you both!" Jungkook kept on scolding the both men who were dumbfounded for a moment before the boy again shot them glares and they were enough for them to do as they were told.
It took quite a minute to collect all the papers and hand them over to Jungkook who still had a very visible frown on his face, he was so focused on serialling the papers that he couldn't even notice the taller man was looking at him with his whole attention and it surely did manage to grab Jungwook's attention.
Both of them silently watched Jungkook reaching his hand to Hajoon's waist only to twist it around to check the time on his watch, Hajoon was frozen on his spot.
"I'm screwed! Only 2 minutes left until the deadline! You both come with me, if my professor doesn't accept my assignment you both will explain everything to him." Hearing Jungkook, Jungwook let out a scoff as he rolled his eyes which made the boy even more irritated.
"Why should we? It's all your fault first of all. You should have done it sooner, you're not punctual at all. A student should be punctual if he wants to be successful in the future. Look at us, my sir is going to be promoted to be an inspector very soon if he solve the serial killer case and I'll be promoted as well. We become police officers because we were punctual in our student lif-" Jungwook was continuously blabbering by himself, trying to give the boy a earful but when he finally opened his eyes which were closed for a moment because he was very proud, he saw his beloved sir following the mentioned boy like a puppy.
Jungwook furrowed his eyes in disbelief before he shouts out.
"Sir, where are you going with him!! He's just wasting our valuable time! For God's sake, sir!!"
This is so damn annoying, first of all Jungwook and Hajoon came here for investigations but now look where they're, standing in a room where a professor was giving them an earful for driving a car inside where it was strictly forbidden and it's not only this, they almost hit a student. Jungwook wanted to hit Jungkook's head with a brick at this point.
"We're sorry for causing the inconvenience." Hajoon apologizes as the professor lets out a deep sigh before shifting his gaze at the youngest boy.
"And Jungkook, I'm only accepting this because you got into an accident but still I'm cutting off 5 marks." When the professor announced it Jungkook's eyes widened in no time.
"What! Professor but why? I could have made it in time if they didn't almost hit me!"
"You may go now, I have some other things to do." Saying that the professor got busy with his stuff and Jungkook's shoulder dropped as he somehow dragged himself out of the room, totally looking like a zombie.
"You're not failing this subject, are you?" When the question was asked by Hajoon who was kind of worried by seeing Jungkook's situation but it only lasted until Jungwook opened his mouth and Jungkook's anger grew in no time.
"He could have passed if he was punctual."
"I swear to God, I will hit you if you open your mouth again!" Jungkook shot death glares, frowning and this made Jungwook finally lose his temper fully.
"What did you say? What do you think you're doing, huh!? How dare you talk to the police in such a manner!?"
Hajoon who was witnessing it all with a poker face was pushed away from Jungkook's sight as the boy stood right in front of Jungwook, both shooting each other death glares.
"You-" Jungkook's voice got stuck in his throat when his eyes fell on a man behind Jungwook who was standing at a distance but the good thing was the man didn't notice him yet. His eyes widened in no time and this sudden change of his expression and action made both Jungwook and Hajoon confused a bit.
And soon Hajoon was again dragged by the boy who made him stand up in front of him and thanks to his a bit bigger body, Jungkook could fully hide himself from being seen by Taehyung. While he was only busy trying to hide himself, Hajoon paused on his track, even though he was kind of losing his peace but he was successfully keeping his calm face.
"Hey, don't touch sir like this!" Jungwook furrowed his eyes at the boy who wanted to push him off a cliff.
"Shut up for a moment, please."
"Who are you trying to hide from?" Asking the question, Jungwook shifted his gaze at a man who was standing at a distance, while reading a paper without looking around much he went into a room.
"He's gone." Hajoon informed and soon he felt Jungkook letting go of his jacket which his hands were tightly clutching onto. Letting out a sigh in relief Jungkook speaks up.
"That was a close one."
"Who's that person?" Hajoon shot him a very expected question and Jungkook gave him a quick reply.
"My professor."
"You seem to have some problems with all of your professor." Upon hearing Jungwook, the boy shot him a glare, he was about to open his mouth to give another rude answer but before that a sudden voice was heard which grabbed three of theirs attention.
"Jungkook!! Why weren't you picking up my calls!" Jimin, who shouted out of his lungs and was running towards Jungkook, was stopped on his track when Jungkook signaled him to stay there and he's coming.
"Alright, gotta go now. And I hope I won't have to see your annoying face again today. Byee!" Biding his quick good Jungkook dashed towards his friend who was waiting for him at a distance.
"Sir, did you see him? He must be mad! Can't I file a complaint against him for insulting a police officer on duty?"
"Jungkook? Isn't that Detective Jaehyun's son's name?" Hajoon asks out of nowhere as Jungwook shifts his gaze at him, puzzled. But soon his puzzled mind connected the dots and realized it was really Detective Jaehyun's son.
No wonder why he wasn't even afraid of them.
"Detective Jaehyun's son's name is Jeon Jungkook, he must be his son. Their faces look kinda same as well." When Hajoon heard the confirmation a small grin made its way to capture his face and this didn't come from any bad idea but something else.
"This world is really round. Now let's go." Jungwook couldn't understand what Hajoon actually wanted to mean as he was puzzled for a moment but soon he followed the man like an obedient puppy.
Both of them kept roaming around the institution, trying to find anything suspicious. They have already checked the CC cameras but nothing suspicious was found. Hajoon knew Jesung was admitted in the hospital and someone kidnapped him from there but how the other two boys were kidnapped was still a mystery.
Both Jiyeong and Wonhyung's parents said before both boys left the house they said they will be back in a moment, none of them said where they were going. And their phones were not turned on which was a big disadvantage for Hajoon and his team, they can't even track his location.
After checking the CC cameras of the hospital Jesung was admitted, Hajoon just saw a nurse taking the boy out of the room and went into the elevator but when the elevator door was opened on the ground floor there was a totally different person, a man who was wearing a cap and a mask was holding the handles of the wheelchair.
Hajoon was kind of having a guess that it could be the serial killer himself but it was not his pattern. After observing his murders for half a year, one thing they discovered about the killer is he's only targeting those who are powerful and somehow all of them were somehow connected with illegal works.
They would go missing all of a sudden, some were kidnapped from their own houses full of strict security. And in a month their bodies would be found in a crowded place, exposed to everyone. But it was the first time some boys in their early twenties went missing.
They have a blurry picture of the kidnapper's face and a group is working to create an AI version of the person so that they can guess what the kidnapper might look like. Still if it helps them to catch the killer the law will not accept it, it's not valid evidence to assume someone as a murderer. Since they could barely see the man's eyes and with only this evidence they surely can't just arrest anyone.
The public will be so ready to throw rotten tomatoes at them.
Hajoon was stopped on his track when a few girls who were gossiping in the corner of the corridor grabbed his attention. Jungwook also stopped and looked at the man in confusion who shifted his gaze. Those girls got anxious after realizing his gaze at them and it made them stop talking immediately.
When Hajoon walked towards them, it was so obvious for anyone to understand they were freaking out by the sudden approach.
"What were you talking about Jesung? Don't be afraid, I'm just collecting information. It has nothing to do with any of you, just tell me what you know. And everything ends here." Hajoon gave them a warm smile of assurance and it worked in his favor as the girls relaxed a bit and looked at each other before one of them opened her mouth to say something.
"Everyone's saying Jesung and his gang tried to bully someone and someone beat him for this. He was even admitted to hospital." Hajoon raised one of his eyebrows at the unexpected information as Jungwook got even more invested in the case.
He didn't know they were a bully.
"Did this happen before?"
"N-No... No one has the audacity to even talk back to them. The person who beat him must be the one who beat Minhyuk." Hajoon got shocked for a moment upon hearing the girl, how does she know Minhyuk was beaten up by someone?
"How do you know that?"
"Everyone knows about it. With Minhyuk both Jiyeong and Jesung were beaten. Maybe that's why he wanted to take revenge and tried to bully the person again and maybe that's why they were beaten. That's all we know but please don't tell anyone we told you this. They might attack us as well, we don't want to be bullied by them once they come back." Finishing her sentence, the girls hurriedly left the place while panicking.
Hajoon was puzzled for a moment, he knew Minhyuk was beaten by someone and it was surely none of his concern and his father also didn't give it much attention but now it seems like both of these incidents are connected together.
"Sir, we should find out who was bullied by them. It must be one of them who did this to take revenge."
"Find out everyone who was bullied by them and also give me their parents' information. They might also do something to take revenge because of their childrens."
"Alright, sir."
It took quite a couple days for Jungwook to collect very strong information on who was bullied by Minhyuk, Jesung and their gang. The list was long, it seems like almost half of the students in that institute got bullied by them. Also there were plenty of students who were bullied by them even though they didn't study in the same institution.
But that's not what was more concerning, Hajoon was frozen on his track when his eyes fell on a certain name and it was Jungkook. Seeing the boy's name in the list, Hajoon couldn't help but got puzzled for a moment before he opened his mouth to voice out his thoughts.
"Jungkook? Was he also bullied?" It seemed like Jungwook was expecting to hear this question from the man the moment he handed over the list.
"Seems like it but I'm not sure. Only a very few students said on the day Jesung was beaten they saw Jungkook running away from the institution in a messy state." Hajoon got even more puzzled, he couldn't connect the dots but it was sure by now that Jungkook was also connected in this case somehow.
"And remember that professor he was trying to hide from?" When the sudden question was asked, Hajoon raised one of his eyes at him.
"What about him?"
"He seems to have a romantic affair with Jungkook. I have checked out the footage of the CC cameras on that road. I don't know why but it was looking like Jungkook tried to attempt suicide and that professor saved him." Jungwook kept on giving the information he collected as Hajoon was sitting on a chair in front of his desk as the monitor was showing footage of the CC cameras on a certain road.
Hajoon watched everything with a blank face, his hand turned into a fist when he watched Jungkook being kissed by that man. Even though his calm face still existed but under that mask he was surely not calm.
"What's his name?" Hajoon says, gritting his teeth as his eyes get darker.
"Taehyung, Kim Taehyung.”
