Chapter 8: The Phone Call

I followed Charley, trying to see what's up.
Out of nowhere she got a phone call, but instead of picking up normally, she saw me and put the three way phone call thing on.

I watched as she put a finger to her lips and gestures to the telephone beside me. I gently picked it up, making sure not to make any sort of noise.

"You haven't told anyone, have you?"
I heard a deep voice growl, followed by Charley's.
"No. When can I stop this?"
I looked up confused, only to find Charley wasn't there anymore.

I remained quiet, still listening in on the phone call.

?- Father C- Charley
?: When you finish what you started
C: I've done everything you've asked!
?: I have you as my slave. Why would I only request one thing?
C: Ugh. Lying to the whole school is hard enough, lying to my friends is torture!
?: Would you like them dead? Cause I can fulfill your wish in a heartbeat.
C: Yes, I know. No, I'll do what you ask.
?: Good... tonight, offer to make dinner for your friends and put the pills that I put in your mailbox in their food.
C: ...then what?
?: Wait until they are all asleep and sneak into the library. I hid a gun in the book titled 'Mother Gooses Nursery Rhymes' DO NOT ASK
C: *holds back a snort* with that gun, what do I do?
?: What do you think!? Shoot everyone!
C: and if I get caught?
?: Leave the dump and run. The Baudelaire children survived on the run, you can too.
C: Okay... When I'm done with this, and my friends are surely safe, I will end you
?: Is that the nicest way to speak to your father?

I dropped the phone, making a crash, forgetting that her father could hear that.
"WHO WAS THAT?" Came a voice from the phone, but I couldn't hear.

'...father?'

The World Is Quiet Here
