In Pursuit Of The Tide

She stood on the beach, the place where they'd last met. The sand found home in the crevices of her toes. The salty breeze tangled her hair.

And on the sand were the letters engraved, spelling, 'Jaclyn'.  Letters that were stained with hurt, betrayal and desperation.

"She isn't coming back. She loves someone else. She isn't coming back", she regurgitated over and over again.

"Please come back", said another voice in her head, making her stare longingly at the name; as if that somehow might draw Jaclyn back to her.

But as the tide rolled in, it took away the grains of sand, it took away her inscription of love. She stood there transfixed; as still as the bark of an elm tree at night and as erect as a lance.

And as the wave receded, it gave her something even better. A clean slate, to start over again.

She realised then, the astounding similitude of tide and time. It would always take something away, at times, everything you hold dear. But just as indifferently, it will give you something much better. For the greater good.

And she was done chasing the waves. It was time she shone like the moon. It was time she created them.
