Host: "Alan is the boss": that was written in a German teen magazine. So Alan Wilder is the most important one in Depeche Mode. In order to do that, Alan Wilder has replaced the now-also-well-known Vince Clarke in the synthpop band. Depeche Mode spend their time well: number 2 in England, number 1 in Germany, and in Austria? We will see. Subsequently, he is being confronted with another passion within music in this interview: Alan Wilder, the angel of peace, the fighter against war and violence.

Alan: The trouble is: If you took a vote across the country [about wars], you would find that the vast majority of people in this country are against all of that. It's just that the way our system works, it doesn't work like that.

Host: Alan Wilder remembers the Falklands War: nothing can be done against that.

Alan: Well, what can you do? I mean, we write about problems in our songs, but we don't expect that our songs can really change anything. All we can hope to do is make people think a little bit. And if it makes a few people think about those problems, then that's the most we can expect to do, I think.
