Chapter 3

"We didn't... we didn't... do the thing, right?" I stuttered.

"Oh yeah, we did lots of things." he said cocking his head to a side.

"I mean... things I wouldn't do if I was sober...?"

"Oh sex?"

"Yes." I said blushing. Wait, why was I even blushing?

"If we did, nothing in this world would make you forget it." he said confidently.

"Adrian!"

"Jessica!"

"Just tell me." I sighed.

"No." Adrian answered, suddenly turning serious. "I might be a lot of things, but I don't take advantage of drunk girls and I hate seeing them being taken advantage off. As you clearly saw yesterday."

"But why? Why me? Why were you there?"

"I was there. You were there. Life works that way."

"I still can't believe that... Never mind."

His phone rang, he picked it up while keeping his gaze glued on me.

"I'm listening... It said what?.. You can't be serious!.. That's fucked up... I understand... Can't the lawyers do something?.. No. Not an option. When?.. Today?.. Now?.. I am right now..." he arched an eyebrow and looked me up and down and up again. "At the moment I only have one candidate and I don't think it will work... I damn right know what I'm facing! Stop reminding me about that!.. I get it... Joshua, just shut up, will you? I'll just try to figure it out, somehow." he hanged up the phone.

"W-w-what was that about?" I stuttered out.

"None of your damn business, that's what!" he snapped. Woah rude.

"Candidate? At the moment? I have a feeling it actually is my business." I hoped I sounded braver than I actually was.

"Nope. I can't. I just can't." he said looking down, on the perfect polished floor.

"What can't you do?"

Suddenly he looked straight in my eyes. I saw a decision form in his head, and I got a feeling I wasn't going to like it.

"Marry me."

"WHAT???!?" I screamed.

"Marry me."

"I...I...I...CAN'T. I can't. I mean we just met after such a long time...and... What?" at that point I was panicking.

"That's not what it sounds like. Actually it is, but the whole thing is completely different from what you must be imagining."

"Oh. Okay. Great! Wait, what? You still want to marry me? You are crazy."

"The call I just got...well it was my manager. My uncle just died." seeing the look of sympathy on my face, he hastily continued "No. It is okay. We weren't that close. But the point is I'm the only relative he has left. My parents died, he never got married. So I'm supposed to inherit his business. My business is great, don't get me wrong, but if joined with his business I can create a powerful empire! And if someone else gets his business, well...the only powerful thing I will be getting is a rival. So you see it is a very important thing for me to get my uncle's inheritance. And... "

"Stop right there!" I interrupted him "Business? What the hell are you talking about? You are a businessman? I though you were a cashier at a shop or something..." and for the first time since we started this topic Adrian laughed.

"Nah, no selling useless stuff for me." shocked, I nodded my approval for him to go on "So I think you got the fact that I really need that business."

"Yeah."

"But my uncle, a cold bastard, decided to punish me for lying. You see I used to lie to him about dating somebody, just so that he would get off my case and stop telling me I should settle down. We both knew I was lying, but I was fine with the way things were headed, until... In his final note he wrote that in order to get the business I will need to get married. I know it doesn't make sense, but to be honest the whole existence of that man didn't make sense! If I don't get married, my uncle's partner Mike will get the whole thing. So now I have to find a person to get married to. ASAP. You are the only one I can think off..."

"So you are going to marry me because there is no one better?"

"You are such a typical woman. Listening to that whole speech and using the last sentence against me. I'm truly hurt." he said looking at me with fake sadness.

"No. I will not marry you."

"Fuck. My first rejection. It really hurts!"

"I'm not joking. I won't marry you. I don't want to get myself involved in something this messy. And marriage, it is sacred. People are supposed to love each other! "

"Come on. That's just stupid! Plus I'm going to make a business deal with you. You desperately need money, don't you. So how about a little bargain?"

"Are you trying to bribe me into marrying you?"

"It is not a bribe, it is a business deal. A proposition, if you may."

I felt cheap, but I did need that money. Marrying a man didn't seem like such a hard task, even if the man was Adrian. Damn, I would have to take the deal. He knew it, I knew it. But I didn't want to give up that easily.

"And how long do we have to be married for? Can we get a divorce straight away? "

"No. There is this other thing that my uncle left in his note." he closed his eyes, like he is going to say something I wouldn't like. "We have to be married for six months and seem like we are generally in love."

"Half a year?!?"

"Yes. You will live with me. After half a year you will get the money, and I will get my uncle's business."

"No! Find yourself another wife." I couldn't possibly stay with this guy for full six months! But I did need the money. I had to think about it. Weigh the pros and cons. "I have to think about it."

"Do think, darling. But think fast, you ain't got that much time. We have to get married in a few hours." his smooth confident voice was driving me crazy. He stood up and walked towards me. Leaning slightly over me, he looked me in my eyes. "And darling, I promise you, those next six months will be very fun for both of us." he knew I will accept, and I was speechless.

***Hey guys. I'm sorry, sorry, very sorry, so very SORRY about not uploading earlier. My laptop broke and I was too busy to write for a while. Typing the book from the phone is way harder and longer. I will really try to upload the next chapter sooner.
