The Marauder Stories: Sirius Black

Chapter Thirty One

                “You’re the dog.” She said quietly in realization, Sirius looked a bit taken a back “You’re Snuffles. You’re the dog that dragged me back here last night.”

                There was a moment of silence; Sirius didn’t know what to say. She had solved the mystery. She had just discovered the Marauders’ secret, well at least almost half of it before they could even mention it, which they were about to do after Arianna had taken her rest.

                “You’re an Animagus.” She continued quietly, looking back at Sirius who just sighed

                “You weren’t supposed to find out this way.” He said in a low voice

                “But was I supposed to find out?” asked Arianna

                “No,” said Sirius truthfully “I knew I should have warned you not to stay out last night…” He said, sounding a bit angry with himself

                “It was my fault,” said Arianna lying back down again “It was stupid of me to have gone out there… I just became another pain in the neck.”

                She looked back at Sirius, who was just staring at her.

                “Thanks for saving me by the way…” she said quietly, looking away from him. She wasn’t used to showing emotions around people. It was a thing she and her brother shared.

                “You should thank James too,” said Sirius “he was there too…” Arianna looked back at him

                “The stag?” she asked, Sirius nodded

                “But then,” she started, her eyes widening in realization “the werewolf…. Remus?”

                Sirius stiffened a bit, but nodded. Arianna couldn’t believe it. But when she thought about it, it actually made sense, the days when he always seemed sick. The days he was usually at the Hospital Wing, when he had to “visit” his sick mother and end up getting “sick” himself.

                “I can’t believe it…” she said quietly to herself

                “He hates himself again,” said Sirius “for hurting you. He understands if you’ll hate him forever, but James and I on his behalf just want you to know, he isn’t really that bad, it wasn’t his fault he was bitten and you shouldn’t go avoid –“

                “You two actually think I am that narrow minded?” said Arianna in disgust “That I’m that horrible? That I’ll avoid someone because of what they are?”

                Sirius looked a bit taken aback

                “It’s the initial reaction.” He said, Arianna rolled her eyes “First of the day, and when we’re actually having a serious conversation.” Arianna ignored him

                “Did you guys have the ‘initial reaction’ when you guys found out?” she asked crossing her arms

                “No,” said Sirius “we were cool about it. We found out in Second Year. That’s why we became illegal Animagi. Took us three years, but it’s worth it.”

                Arianna smiled at his loyalty, but went back to her point

                “So why did you guys expect me to have this ‘initial reaction’ when you guys didn’t even have it when you guys found out?” Sirius smiled at her cleverness

                “You know what Riddle?” said Sirius “You’re pretty cool for a girl. You’re quite different.” Arianna just smiled

                “Hey is Remus up?” she asked, Sirius raised his eyebrows in confusion

                “Not sure,” he said “I wasn’t supposed to tell you anything yet, when I came here I was just checking on you. Peter is still sleeping, James is most likely to have fallen asleep too, not sure about Remus; he was still kinda upset with himself when I went here.”

                Arianna then sat up,

                “Well he’d better stop being upset with himself,” she said as she swung her legs to the side of the bed

                “What are you doing?” asked Sirius

                “I am going to talk to Remus.” She said as she tried standing up “Now get up from your seat and help me get to him.” Sirius smiled as he stood up from his seat and helped Arianna walk.
