Keefe's POV:

As the clock struck midnight, I found myself staring at the ceiling of our darkened bedroom, unable to find sleep. Sophie's side of the bed was empty, her warmth conspicuously absent. She had been working late again, buried in some urgent project at the office. I turned to look at the empty space beside me, wishing she was there to chase away the restlessness that gripped my mind.

With a heavy sigh, I pushed back the covers and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. The hardwood floor felt cool beneath my bare feet as I stood up, the moonlight filtering through the window casting a soft glow over the room. I knew where she must be – at her desk, surrounded by files and papers, lost in the world of numbers and deadlines.

Silently, I made my way down the hallway, the familiar creak of the floorboards accompanying my steps. As I reached the study door, I hesitated for a moment, my hand hovering over the doorknob. Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open and entered the room.

The soft light of the desk lamp illuminated her face, her brow furrowed in concentration as she scribbled notes on a legal pad. A strand of hair had escaped her messy bun, falling across her cheek. I couldn't help but smile at the sight of her, so focused and determined. She was the light of my life, the one who made every day brighter just by being there.

"Love, I can't sleep without you," I whispered, my voice breaking the silence of the room.

Sophie looked up, surprise and concern flickering in her eyes. "Keefe, what are you doing up? You should be asleep," she said, her voice soft and gentle.

"I can't sleep without you beside me," I replied, crossing the room to stand behind her chair. I placed a hand on her shoulder, feeling the tension in her muscles.

She leaned back into my touch, her eyes closing for a moment. "I'm sorry, Keefe. This project is just taking longer than I anticipated. I promise, I'll be done soon. Go back to bed, I'll join you in a little while," she said, her voice filled with warmth and love.

I shook my head, the ache in my heart growing stronger. "No, I can't leave you here alone. Let me help you finish this," I insisted, pulling up a chair beside her.

Sophie glanced at me, a mixture of surprise and gratitude in her eyes. "Are you sure? It's just a bunch of boring spreadsheets and reports," she said, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

I nodded, reaching for a stack of papers on the desk. "I'm sure. I want to be here with you, no matter what you're working on," I said, my voice earnest.

And so, we spent the next few hours hunched over the desk, surrounded by the soft glow of the desk lamp. Sophie showed me the intricacies of the project, explaining the numbers and graphs with patience and humor. I watched her work, mesmerized by the way her eyes lit up when she talked about something she was passionate about.

As the night wore on, the tension in her shoulders eased, her laughter filling the room. Together, we conquered the mountain of work, turning what could have been a lonely night into a shared experience of love and laughter. And when the last spreadsheet was finally analyzed, Sophie leaned back in her chair, exhaustion evident in her eyes.

"You should go to bed, Keefe. I'll clean up here and join you in a minute," she said, a weary smile on her face.

I shook my head, reaching for her hand. "No, we'll clean up together. I want to be beside you every step of the way," I said, my heart overflowing with love for this incredible woman who had chosen me to share her life.

And so, we cleaned up the desk together, putting away the files and papers, the silence of the room now filled with quiet conversation and shared laughter. As we finally made our way back to the bedroom, the first light of dawn was breaking on the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold.

Crawling back into bed, Sophie snuggled into my arms, her head resting against my chest. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close, feeling the steady rhythm of her heartbeat against my own. In that moment, I knew that no matter what challenges life threw our way, as long as we were together, we could conquer them all.

And as sleep finally claimed us both, I whispered those three precious words that bound us together in heart and soul, "I love you, Sophie. Always and forever."
