Chapter 20 - There Will Be Brood

Start from the beginning

"What the hell is that?" Sara asks

"It's called an IGCOM." Gary says

"What?" Sara asks

"It's an intergalactic communication device." Gary says

"So, sorry, you're just gonna call Kayla?" Zari says

"Are you kidding? She would never answer my call." Gary tells her. "No, but there's something else we can do with it." He says, motioning for the group to follow into the living room where he tells Mick to sit for a picture

"Okay, Mick. Let's try to make this a little more dynamic." Zari tells Mick, directing him. "Move your body a little to the right. Other right. Yup, okay. Just... chin down. Too much."

"Fake eggs coming in hot." Nate says, handing them off to Gary who begins to put them on Mick

"This is stupid." Brooklyn whispers to Sara, the two girls leaning against the wall at the back of the room as they watch. Maddie plays on the floor in front of the girls, Brooklyn watching the crazy in front of them but also watching her daughter like a hawk

"Definitely." Sara says. "But...who knows, maybe it'll work." She says with a shrug

"This is worse than giving birth." Mick comments

"Just sit still, okay?" Gary tells him

"Are you sure this is gonna work?" Sara asks from the back

"Oh, 100%." Gary says. "Kayla likes to pretend she's never on Galixiposts, but she totally is, and once we tag her, she's gonna lose it." He says, finishing the set up. He glances back at Sara and Brooklyn again. "And if the peanut gallery back there can quiet down a little."

"Snarky." Brooklyn whispers to Sara with a laugh

"Okay, Mick. I think the only thing left to do is smile." Zari tells him. "Be happy." She tells him, holding the device ready to take a picture of him

"Okay, center him in the photo." Gary says. "There we go. And picture. Tag Kayla. And post. And now we wait."

"Wait?" Sara asks. "For how long?"

"Eh, you know, sometimes reception on Earth can be a little spotty." Gary says

"Oh, God." Ava mumbles

***

"Are you sure it actually posted?" Ava asks, pacing the floor. Brooklyn, with Maddie asleep on her chest, watches as Ava paces

"Well, maybe we need to check the Wi-Fi." Sara says

Then, there's a flash of bright light. Brooklyn covers Maddie's face. "She's here." Gary says in a sing song voice. Kayla bursts through the door in alien form. "Kayla. Click-clack-clack." He says in alien language and Kayla morphs into human form

"What do you mean they're fake?" Kayla growls angrily

"We will explain." Gary says before Kayla throws him into the wall

"Look..." Sara tries but she's cut off by Kayla trying to punch her. "We're sorry about the way we had to contact you, but Bishop stole our ship, and you are the only person that can help us get it back."

"And why would I help you guys?" Kayla asks

"Cause the eggs on that ship are real." Mick says, standing up from the couch

"And how did you survive?" Kayla asks Mick

"Miracle of childbirth." Mick says

"Bishop acted as midwife and saved Rory's life." Ava says

"Those eggs are gonna hatch soon." Kayla says. "I have to go and protect them."

"Wait. Ever since that night on the planet, I've never stopped thinking about you." Mick says. "The eggs might be fake, but my feelings for you are... real."

"The only thing I care about right now is getting back my babies." Kayla tells him

"Well, if you wanna get your eggs back from Bishop, you're gonna need our help." Sara tells her

***

"All right, losers, we've located your ship." Kayla says in the control room of her ship after driving. "Odessa, Texas, 1925."

"And the Fountain of Imperium is in Texas." Sara says

"I only care about my eggs." Mick says

"The tracker says your ship should be right in front of us, but I don't see it." Kayla says

"Oh, hold on. Wait." Nate says, pulling out keys and he clicks the keys. The waverider beeps and comes into view. "And bingo."

"There she is." Sara says with a smile

"Oh, I missed her." Gary says emotionally. Brooklyn would have rolled her eyes if she didn't feel the same way but she did miss the ship

"Let's go." Mick orders and most of the Legends begin to leave. Brooklyn catches the conversation Nate and Zari have before she leaves...

"Nate, wait. John's not gonna be on that ship." Zari says. "All he cares about is the Fountain."

"Okay, so how do we find a evil genius and a crazed wizard in 1920s Texas?" Nate asks

"Well, we, uh, follow the weirdness." Zari says

"Be safe!" Brooklyn calls to them before she runs out after the others, holding Maddie close to her

The other Legends make their way onto the waverider and into the lab...

"There are the eggs." Sara says

"It's locked!" Mick says after trying to open the door guarding the eggs

"Well, there's gotta be another way in." Kayla says

"Gideon, are you there?" Ava asks

"Guys, what is that thing attached to the incubator?" Sara asks

"Congratulations, Legends!" Bishop exclaims over a message. "You found your ship and triggered this message. Now, I knew the first thing you'd do is try to save these wonderful interspecies eggs. But if you want them, you'll have to play a game I call 48 Pick Up. Now, when I open the door, you'll have scant few moments to gather as many of the eggs as possible before the incubator goes boom-boom. Starting... now." And the door opens. The group runs in

"Grab anything you can to put the eggs into." Kayla orders as the group puts the eggs in boxes

"Guys, hurry up!" Mick yells as the timer beeps

The group runs out and then Gary shouts, "Egg!" And there's one on the floor. Mick rushes back into the room as the timer beeps rapidly

"Get back now!" Sara yells and the group follows. She throws her body over Brooklyn's who is sheltering Maddie. As the timer goes off, the device explodes and Mick is thrown into the wall by a fiery explosion
