I love words, their histories, and the ways they can be fitted together, the stories they can tell. When I pack for a desert island, I shall only pack a dictionary. Maybe the big Scrabble dictionary with pictures and little stories about words. Because when you really think about it, every book ever written in English is contained within a dictionary. In a tumble of jumbled letters, of course, but still there. And every book we still intend to write, every story yet to be told. I love books too, the characters and the ideas they contain. And people who also love words. Like Leonard Cohen, to mention only one. I love Canada too, and everything Made in Canada. Especially CanLit and the CBC. I love beauty, the natural beauty in which we live, and the beauty we create.
I love to put words together in too many different conformations. My poem about St. Bridget, "The Rush Gatherer," has been published in three countries. My non-fiction Here In Hope: A Natural History is still available from the publisher. My novels In Your Dreams and Anything You Say are looking for readers, as is my Annotated Morag, notes on my favourite novel by my favourite Canadian writer. And my creative non-fiction, Dancing With Ghosts. Here at wattpad I shall post first my gentle attempt at political humour, A Modest Proposal for Reforming the Prison System. No one gets shot. Nothing blows up. All the action is verbal (words again) and centred around one large table. Like Twelve Angry Men, except that there are only six angry men and one naive female. What are the odds?
