My Explanation :: Poetry

Poetry is hard.
Everybody thinks they can write it,
and it's a requirement to teach sometimes.
Nobody understands how hard it is.
It's not just words,
it's a beautiful thing.
A haiku is based off nature,
not a black cat and candy corn.
Change the fundamentalities of poetry,
you get an unappealing mess.
People write poetry,
thinking the key is to be 'deep' and 'wise'.
They're wrong.
It's to tell a story,
give a bit of the picture.
Pictures are not poems,
Poems are the little bit of the picture that is out of the ordinary.
Find the intriguing things,
the special, imperfect things.
You don't force a poem.
Poetry comes to you,
and in all honesty, that's how it's meant to be.
