Keith sat at the table, hands in his lap as he listened to the rest of the group laugh and joke. He couldn't find it in himself to join in on the conversation, seeing as there were just too many other things on his mind. His gaze was focused on his hands, unaware of the eyes that were trained on him.
Feeling a nudge from under the table, Keith looked up to meet Lances gaze. The taller boy's eyebrows were knotted and he mouthed his concerns as Keith read his lips.
'What's wrong?' Keith read as he focused on Lance. Shaking his head, he looked away. He felt another nudge but ignored it, not having it in him to answer Lances questions.
The rest of the meal was a blur, one that Keith didn't partake in. Once over, Keith excused himself to his room, where he could be alone with his thoughts and nothing else. He walked the halls of the castle quietly, finally reaching his room. Entering, he didn't bother with the lights, simply making his way over to his bed and flopping down onto the soft mattress.
He didn't know how much time had passed between him closing his eyes and the knock on the door, but he groaned knowing that it wasn't nearly enough.
"Keith, it's me, Lance." The voice on the other side of his door whispered. "Are you asleep?" Rolling over, Keith contemplated whether or not to answer the source of all his overthinking. He finally decided, sighing and calling out.
"Yes. I'm asleep. Now go away." He kept his back facing the door even as he heard the knob turn and Lance enter. His eyes closed and his body stilled when he felt the weight of the bed shift.
"Keith, talk to me please. What's wrong?" Lance rested a hand on Keiths shoulder, causing the smaller boy's body to go stiff.
Breathe, breathe.
Keith had to remind himself as his brain overloaded, flooding his imagination with scenarios and scenes of Lance and himself. Squeezing his eyes shut tighter, he sighed.
"You." Was all that he let past his lips, regretting it almost instantly.
"Me?" Lance repeated, confused.
"Yes, you. You keep messing with my head and I can't be around you without wanting to..." He cut himself off, worried of what might happen if he continued.
"You keep wanting to, what Keith? What is it that you want?" Lance asked softly as he pulled on Keith's shoulder, bringing the smaller boy to roll onto his back. Both boys laid quiet for a moment, just looking into the others eyes, before Keith closed his.
"I keep wanting you. I know it's wrong and disgusting and there's clearly something wrong with me but I want you." He lets it all out in one breath, rushing his words and feeling his face heat as he does so. The air feels heavy in the room as the only thing that fills it is the sound of the two boys breathing. Keith feels his heart break, somewhere deep down hoping that Lance would tell him that there was nothing wrong with him and that his feelings were not one-sided. But that was too much to hope for.
A tear falls from his eye and he goes to wipe it away, only for his hand to be caught.
"Keith, do you understand what you're saying? Do you really understand what you're saying?" Lance looked deeply at Keith, awaiting his answer.
Keith looks away, biting his lip before nodding his head.
"I know what I'm saying, and I'm sorry." He says, barely above a whisper. He tries to push Lance away, afraid to cry in front of him. But Lance wasn't having it. Sighing, Lance cups Keith's face and pulls him forward. Before Keith had a chance to process what was happening, Lance was looming over him, lips connected and heart racing.
Keith felt his own heart shatter into a million beautiful crystal pieces, filled with pure happiness and shock.
Pulling away, Lance couldn't help but chuckle. "You're a dumbass, Mullet. Is that what was bothering you?" Keith melts under Lance's gaze, falling harder for the way that his finger lightly brushes against his cheek in concern.
"Y-yes." He blushes, throwing an arm over his eyes to hide from Lance. Laughing, Lance lets his weight fall onto Keith, resting his face in the crook of the smaller boy's neck.
