I recalled to the days gone by
When the pain was too much to bear
And no matter how much I cried
It seemed as if He did not care
I wondered which of His promises were true
For I did not seem to have any breakthrough
No matter how hard I tried and believed
Yet still the pain went on unrelieved
But now I know how shallow I was
Not knowing what the Lord had in mind
He kept the pain going for good cause
To make me grow and be more refined
