Barely Holding On

People are always drowning

In pain, in anguish, in suffering

Struggling although it offers no help

Screaming although no one can hear

The water is cold and merciless

It stings your skin and tears at your bones

The pain never stops

Only worsening until nothings left

The weight of the water is heavy

And threatens to pull you under

Gasping for breath

Holding on to that last bit of hope

The end will certainly come soon

Though much pain will be there too.
