Carlos helped Varian stand up. He looked at crowd and gripped his brother's hand.
V:Looking back at yesterday
I thought I gave it everything

Varian turned to his twin.
When I looked into your eyes

Carlos squeezed Varian's hand reassuringly as the guests began to dance.

The brothers suddenly stomped their feet, splashing the water.

Carlos set a hand on his shoulder and Varian gave a sheepish smile.

Varian looked out among the crowd. He had come so far from when he first stepped foot in Aurodon. He had people he could trust, a brother who actually loved him. He still had issues, he knew that. He still wasn't quite over his father, but he knew that he could move on with the help of some strength from his friends and Carlos. He was beginning to know how to love people back and he actually had hope for bright days ahead of him.
He hadn't forgotten his promise to Cassandra, but he'd have to work on that another day. At the moment they needed to calm Aurodon after the whole Uma episode.
Uma was still out there and when she came around, he'd be there for her.
He guessed this meant that he finally found something he had never realized he dreamed of. A home.
"Hey, Varian..."
Varian turned to find the voice was Mal. "Thank you, for you know..."
"Eh, no prob... Mal... sorry for being so hard on you too. I know what you were going through had to be super hard. It's not easy adapting to a new world and changing when you've only been taught one thing you're entire life."
"So... we good?" Mal tilted her head.
Varian chuckled softly. "Sure." They shook hands.
"Hey, Varian!"
"Yeah, Ruby?"
"This is what a party really is!"
Varian laughed. Carlos wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "What are you waiting for? Let's not keep the party waiting!"

Uma surfaced the water, smirking. "You didn't think this was the end of the story, did you?"
Note: And that's the end of the first book. I wasn't expecting to actually finish it so soon, but here we are. I'm gonna have a Halloween special on it's own some time soon. Should only be one part, but we'll see. Now, let's get ready for a bumpy ride of book two.
