Two Shoes, One Step

The two shoes wait for the elevator to unveil itself,
while they lay secluded in a long-strip row corridor.
They walk back and forth to keep busy, themselves,
treading past one, two, three, four, many a door.
The hallway's silence, disturbed ever so slightly,
by a melody of footsteps, tip-tap, tip-tap, tip-tap
Dragging their shadow from the lights so brightly,
like a sundial, all the while, tip-tap, tip-tap, tip-tap.
Less than a two-minute ascent to the 6th floor,
the two shoes halt from the sound of a ding.
As a shift in gear sends them darting straight over,
it takes two shoes to make one step sing.
