On Turning 6

The whole idea of it makes me feel

So tiny and so small

I'm not any bigger

I don't feel older at all

I know that I'm in Kindergarten

(The older kids call us "Kinderbeans")

I have a brand new hair cut

(I gave it to myself, can you see?)

But I'm still so much smaller than my sister

(P.S. I'm a whole two years older than her!)

We just moved to Wisconsin

Alone without friends in the winter

I rub my hands together "Brrrr"

Being five was better than this!

I do not want to be six!

FACT: I don't like to be told "Happy Birthday"

*what is written in this poem is comical and sweet, and these things are things that I did when I was little. My hair has never quite recovered from those scissors 😉
