Mistakes Cost Us

A single joyless tear tracks down my lifeless cheeks.

My withered crumpled soul lies broken under your feet.

Choking on the past you won't let me forget;

Can you see through my castle walls to the destruction locked within?

The agony in my eyes is surely burning high,

Yet you wander past oblivious.

You spew words of molten lava.

How don't you see my guilty heart tearing me apart?

Never did I intend to hurt you,

Never did I mean any harm.

Yet somehow I stabbed you through the chest with an iron spear three foot long

And on the other end my own blood was shed tenfold.

As I lock up my tears and try not to break,

My scar ravaged heart freezes into crystals.

You'll break them into shards with your wistful longing.

I brought this on myself and now I pay the pain-stricken price.

I made a mistake,

And now we both lay bruised and broken,

Battered and beaten,

In a shell of loss and hurt.
