Will woke in a cold sweat. More nightmares. He'd been having them every night since Adelaide returned home. Dreams of that forest. What happened to Adelaide. What could've happened. Unspeakable things. He had to check on her, for his own consolation, just to remind himself that she did come home and she is safe. He slowly cracked her bedroom door open and peeked inside. His gut dropped, dread spilling out of the cavern that was forming in his chest. She was not in her room. He frantically searched the house, each room that she wasn't in drilling into his already sinking heart. He didn't want to believe it but finally he acknowledged what he already knew. She went back to the forest.

He took off running down the dirt path to the field. He knew he didn't have much time before something irreversible happened. He wasn't even sure he'd be able to reach her if the barrier he'd encountered before was there. He ran through the tall wild grasses and without pause breached into that wooded hell. Just hold on, Addy, I'm coming.
