Everyone thought that our lives would be fine. Sure we had some wars in the past and at the time but if you weren't the ones out fighting you felt it was ok. It was as if nothing was going on. But then came the news of all the soldiers dying rapidly and the rumors of nuclear bombs being made by not only our enemies but our country itself. People started to get worried until they got something knew from the media to distract them.

But something's you can't ignore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My feet pounded against the ground as I run with my brother Jay on my back with some of our things. Not even a few moments ago we had been having a picnic to enjoy the beautiful day and to get our mom and dad's return out of out mind. It wasn't because we hated them or anything like that, more like I didn't want to have to think about how it's going to be awkward like every other time that they come home.
They both were very well sought after lawyers and more times than not they were never in the house. Living in a well off house on top of a hill out looking the city of New York that was far away but still close. As we sat on the red and white plaid blanket eating the finger sandwiches out nanny Mrs. Johnston had made for us before leaving to go get something from her post office box or something like that I made goofy faces to make Jay laugh.
For now we enjoyed being alone with no adults around. With Jay at the age of 7 and myself being a recently turned 18 year old it was always fun getting to do whatever we wanted without being scolded when Mrs. Johnston wasn't around. With Jay facing the opposite way from the city that was when I saw it.
First there was the light. It was blinding and I closed my eyes as I pulled my brother to my chest to shield him from seeing it. Next was the large gush of hot air that moved so fast in our direction. We were far away enough not to be killed by it but close enough to feel the pressure of the gush of air. Jay screamed scared and shocked by the pressure that nicked us over and as i looked up I saw the most heart stopping sight.
The mushroom.
My body froze and I watch it expand and lift higher. Just last week we had been talking about how the nuclear bombs were when they where used to bomb some part of Asia that I couldn't remember. Not only that we spoke about what happened after its dropped and what to and not to do after.
I snap back into reality after the history lesson I just had in my brain ended and I look down at the crying dirty blonde head of hair that belonged to my brother. 'Shit! We have to get out of here now!' I lift him up in my arms and grab the edges of the blanket and just throw it over my shoulder like a hobo with a stick and bandana would do in movies and ran to the house.
The pounding in my chest kicked up more as I remembered the few animals we had that where out and should be brought into the barn that is connected to the house. Mother wouldn't allow them inside but didn't want me to be outside in the dirt so this was the compromise. I whistle sharply and hear the sound of barking and hooves coming closer. I knew our two cows where inside since they had been inside for the day and so was the mother cat we found along with the father and babies so that meant that our horses were coming with our dogs.
I put Jay down and hand him the blanket holding the food we had before I tell him something very important. "Jay I need you to listen very carefully, I want you to run inside and go to the living room. Stay there and do not move at all until I get there." My voice was stern but at the same time gentle as I spoke. "You understand?" He nods his head and runs inside making me sigh with relief.
But as soon as I turn back around I stiffen again and gulp as I look out at the numerous dark clouds of smoke scattered out in the distances.
One thing for sure is there is no ignoring this.
*************Authors note****************
Hello everyone! So I hope you like the first chapter of my new work in progress.
I just want to say that if you are going to read this you must know a few things so there is no complications.
1. There is many grammar and spelling mistakes. I am not a professional writer and only do this because I wish to.
2. There will be foul language and also graphic scenes. If these are not things that you like then please do not read on.
And 3. Feedback is always the best but not rude comments just to hurt people. Meaning if you want to point out a few spelling mistakes or something that confused you that is fine but don't argue with each other or be rude simply because of either what is written or said by yourselves.
These are all I ask and if you do not like that than I am sorry.
If you enjoyed this part so far be sure to leave feedback, follow, add the book and enjoy!
-with love,
Destiny
