Many names in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole are actually Latin names that relate to owls. Glaux, the name of the owl god, is a Latin word that is part of quite a few scientific names for owls. The villain's name Striga is probably based on the Latin term for the family of non-Barn Owls ('true owls') Strigidae. Tyto means 'Barn Owl' in Latin; that is why one of the kingdoms is called The Forest of Tyto, Pure Ones often call themselves Tytos and Kludd has the title of High Tyto in the books.
