She was broken, damaged and used beyond repair. Her life like a black whole, pulling her into the darkness from which she came.

Her life was a living hell, though no one knew, then again did anyone even care? She didn't think so. She didn't think anyone saw the way she cried until she had no more tears left to shed. She wondered if anybody saw the frown constantly etched upon her features or the dark, heavy bags always under her eyelids or even her eyes that were forever red and puffy from crying.

No, she thought, no one really cared. But someone did. He knew. He noticed the way her shoulders slumped and the look of defeat that never left her face. He noticed the way, the darkness followed her every move. The darkness that always seemed to reach out to her in a way that said, just give up, already. But she never did, she was too strong for that.

He watched as slowly the light that once shone in her eyes diminished to nothing. He was there all her life, watching as the darkness consumed her. But he didn't help. He didn't pity. He didn't comfort. He simply watched. For he had felt guilty. He had the life she could only hope to dream of. When she had dreams anyway.

Her nights were spent restlessly staring up at the ceiling of her plain, empty and downright depressing room. For if she dared to shut her eyes, she knew, she'd find herself in nightmares clutches. No, she wouldn't take the risk. Oh, how she longed to wake up one day and feel important, feel cared for and maybe even ...loved?

Then there were those days, those days that she wished she'd never wake up at all. The day she'd close her eyes, and never open them again. The day her fears and worries finally evaporate into thin air. She could be free. She was just waiting, waiting for the right moment. But was it the right thing to do? She had asked herself this many times over and was granted the same answer. Was this the right choice?

He didn't think so. He didn't want her to leave. He loved her. And when the day came, he let her go. Because deep down he knew she'd be much better off. She'd be free at last. So he watched as the blood dripped down onto the thick grey carpet. He didn't try to intervene. He watched as her eyes closed. He saw her body go limp and he felt the temperature of her skin grow cold. He watched in stony silence as she took her last breath. He smiled, and then he left. He left and never looked back.
