My boyfriend Nathan decided that since it’s close to Halloween that he would bring me on a ‘Haunted Boat Ride’. Keep in mind that I’m not really good with scary things and I tried all I could to get him to not bring me but he wasn’t taking it. He nearly forced me into doing and he also used the guilt trip.

“But babe this is for our anniversary too!” he had whined.

Of course I had to say yes. Who can resist his cute like pout and puppy dog eyes? Not me! It’s pretty pathetic how much of an influence he has over me.

But here I am, standing in line, shaking with fear with his arm around my waist. I could hear him chuckling beside me and all I want to do is whirl around and slap the shit out of him.

“You better wipe that smirk of your face right now otherwise this isn’t going to be a good anniversary,” I threatened.

He immediately quieted and I smirked in satisfaction. Good, he had actually listened!

“Next!” the man up front called.

The line moved up and next thing we know, we are three couples from getting on our own boat. Fear filled me. I had a feeling I was going to pee myself during this. After all, it was supposedly the scariest ride in the entire freaking country. Great!

It was finally our turn and we stepped into the rickety boat one at a time. Nathan squished himself close to me and held me into his side. That made me feel a bit better. Then the worker let us go and we began to slowly drift down the waterway.

The woods were eerily quiet and it freaked me out. Especially when an owl flew overheard, scaring us both to death.

All of a sudden, there was a moaning sound coming from our right. I looked up to see a zombie looking person stumble out, making it closer to the water. I was shocked when they actually got in and started swimming towards our boat. I let out a scream and snuggled my head into Nathan’s shoulder so that I couldn’t see. He kissed the top of my head as he watched the location of the zombie.

Suddenly I felt our boat tip to the side and my head shot up. The zombie was trying to crawl in our boat! I screamed and desperately tried to climb away. Luckily it couldn’t get in and fell back into the water. I looked back to see the person returning to acting like a human and resuming their position in the woods where they came out. Well, that’s reassuring.

By the fourth scare, I had had enough. I was ready to pee my pants and I was freezing cold. Luckily Nathan had given me his jacket though.

I looked up at him and pouted. “I want to go home,” I said.

“I know. The ride is almost finished. Until then, snuggle up to me and stay warm.”

I nodded and sat down on his lap. He held me in his arms and I ignored the rest of the scares. For the last twenty minutes it seemed like the actors didn’t want to scare us. They must’ve seen how scared to death I was.

I hadn’t noticed I fell asleep until I opened my eyes and realized I was no longer on the boat ride. I was in Nathan’s car and he was driving.

“Nath?” I whispered.

“Yes babe?” he wondered, grabbing my hand and rubbing his thumb over it sweetly.

“Can we not do something like this next year?” I hoped.

“I promise we won’t. I’m sorry you got so scared,” he apologized.

I smiled. He was too sweet. Then suddenly I realized an urgent thing.

“NATHAN I NEED TO PEE!” I screamed. “NOW!”

His eyes widened with shock.

“Well, I can’t do anything about that! There’s not a rest stop for another 5 miles!”

“THEN DRIVE FASTER!”

Much to my liking, he sped up and we got there a lot faster than we would’ve if he had kept at the speed from earlier. I relieved myself and we sat down for some hot chocolate to warm ourselves up. I’d say that was the best part of the night seeing I was no longer scared and spending time with my boyfriend.
