The next day Mr Orlando, who told me to call him Vittorio went to the meeting with the rest of the politicians and said I could come with him, providing that I stayed quiet and behaved. The room was massive and wasn't like any of the others that I had been in, it was filled with noise as different diplomats took chairs next to or away from each other, I filled the seat next to Vittorio;

"What is that child doing here?" said the Belgium diplomat

The Italian growled out a reply and rested a possessive hand on my knee and glared at anyone who disagreed with him. I felt a bit of uneasiness at Vittorio's protectiveness and tried to not blush which was getting harder. I had a piece of paper with me, and I started my little project I drew Mr Lloyd-George first he had the United Kingdom's flag in the distance and he was stood up with his fist in the air, then I drew Mr Clemenceau with the French tri-colour he was sat down putting his gloves on which he usually did when he was nervous or in deep concentration, Mr Wilson came next I had him with his fingers steepled together in thought and the brightly coloured United Nation's flag in the distance. Last I drew a very bored Mr Orlando he had the Italian flag behind him, I had him sat down with his most polite smile plastered onto his face and his hand underneath his chin. I surveyed my handiwork before Clemenceau lost his temper with Wilson, and the yelling started. Suddenly Vittorio stood up and shouted;

"STAI ZITTO" (Shut up)

The two men sat so;

"Your like two old women fighting over the laundry, and as I am sure we have nothing else to discuss I'd like to retire"

I then followed him, half running out of the room.

A sudden realization hit me, when he leaves I won't have anybody any-more I'll be all alone and left to the mercy of the staff at Versailles, as if someone had read my thoughts Vittorio turned up at my door carrying a suitcase. I didn't want him to leave ...;

"Raoul ... I ... will you come with me back to Italy"

My face broke into a smile and I readily agreed, he gave me a suitcase and helped me pack within the hour we had left Versailles and for that reason I felt safe. The voyage to Italy was a long one and I spent most of my time looking out to the sea the dolphins splashed merrily along the boat, soon I saw the coast line of Italy. A new beginning has its flaws.
