"Damn, that white one got me good!" A gruff voice muttered.

I blinked my eyes open to a dirty room with a grey hue. The floors were carpet, but it was an incredibly thin layer.

I was lying on the ground against a concrete wall and my wrists had some sort of heavy chains clasped around them. Across an area of about ten feet was a wall of thick bars and a padlocked gate. On either side of the little cell were also walls of bars.

The man that spoke about the white wolf was sitting in a chair on the other side of the gated bars. He was wrapping his arm with some sort of bandage and hadn't seemed to notice my consciousness yet.

What happened after I passed out? I wondered. Where did they take me? Is Austin and Kate here too?

A loud creak! Sounded from somewhere in the room and heavy footsteps followed. "Did you give them Wolf's Bane?" A different man asked the injured one.

Them? Wolf's Bane?

The injured guy nodded. "One of them. I wasn't sure about the possible human. We don't want to give a human the stuff, right?"

The new guy shrugged. "I don't think it will hurt her. Might make her sick but we don't know if she's wolf or not and I don't want to risk anything."

The injured man sighed and stood up, going to the back of the room and messing with something I couldn't see in the slight darkness. A few moments later and he was heading towards my cell flicking a syringe filled with a thick, clear liquid.

Don't freak out. I told myself. Don't let them know you're awake. You need information.

I could feel myself starting to hyperventilate and desperately tried to calm myself down silently. It's just a shot. It'll be over and you'll be fine. I tried to convince myself. It didn't seem to be working.

The man dug a key out of his pocket and unlocked the padlock. He sung the gate open and I squeezed my eyes shut and held as still as possible.

I kept them shut all the way through him grabbing my arm and sticking the needle in. I held back a whimper when whatever he inserted into my system started to burn. I kept silent as he threw my arm back down and walked away, opening my eyes long enough to see the two men leave the room before the burning became too great. I screamed and then the world went pitch black.

The next time I awoke, the room smelled thick and like iron. The light was the same shade of grey, so I couldn't tell how much time had passed.

I slowly sat up, wincing when I used the arm that was injected. I got on my feet and limped to the bars with the gate. I gripped them and tried to gauge how big the gaps were and if I would ever be able to fit through them.

"You're not a wolf, are you?"

I jumped and let out a shriek. I whirled in a circle, trying to locate the strange voice. "Who was that?"

A sigh sounded from the left of me and I turned sharply in that direction. "Obviously you don't know me, but I know you."

I squinted my eyes through the dim lighting, trying to see the person — I thought it was a girl — who was talking. "Yeah, that's not creepy." I said sarcastically.

The girl groaned quietly. "Yikes, that's not what I meant."

Light footsteps came from through the bars and a tall, but thin girl stepped into my view. Her hair looked like a dark brown almost black color, but that could've just been the lighting. Her skin was chocolate and her eyes shined green through the dark. She was also stark naked.

She stuck her hand through the bar, but I noticed she was careful not to touch the bars separating us. Were they dangerous to her? It must've been a wolf thing because I could touch them fine.

"I'm Hazel. I'm the wolf you've been throwing meat to for eight months."

I blinked at her and she grinned at me. I slowly stuck my hand out and placed it in hers, shaking it politely. "I'm-"

"Alexis Greyburn. You're seventeen and you have two brothers. Your parents are vets, and you hope to be one too. You rescued your dog Fleur when she was a pup and now she follows you everywhere. Wolves are your favorite animal and that's why you spend so much time in and around my pen."

"Wow." I said after I finished gaping. "Okay, so you know me well then. Almost in a scary way."

She shrugged. "Yeah sorry, I'm super observant and you're a pretty open person. And I have a hunch that you get lonely because you tended to talk to me a lot, even though I couldn't answer you yet."

I sighed, but a smile crossed my face. "Hey I was trying to get you to warm up and you seemed most interested when I talked about my personal life."

She looked down, "Sorry I was kind of mean. My wolf took over after a month of being stuck in there and I had no choice in any matter anymore. I was merely a spectator. All I wanted was to shift back and go home but you guys seemed to think something was wrong with me."

"Well we found you caught in a trap, what else were we supposed to do? You seemed sick and anxious all the time so we kept a close eye on you. If you ate better and acted more lively, we probably would've let you out." I paused and looked at her again, "Wow I can't believe you were a shifter this whole time."

She chuckled, "Yeah, I'm surprised you never figured it out. Especially when you know Austin and Kaitlyn."

I sucked in a sharp breath. "Wait you know them too?"

She grinned. "I'm from their pack!"
