He took her out into the cold. It was snowing today. Snowflakes stuck to Lily’s lashes and decorated her hair, giving her a snowflake veil. Tate kissed her hand, looking at her adoringly.

Not many people were at school at this time, so they trudged across the blankets of snow. He led her through the bare trees, deep into the school’s woods where people rarely go. There was a little homemade den, right in the shadows. Tate told Lily this was his safe haven.  He looked down at his feet, feeling shy.

Lily just kissed him on the cheek, pulling him into the den. “Can this be our safe haven now?”

He wrapped his arms around her, feeling a sensation of warmth even though it was snowing. Kissing her hair, he mumbled. “Of course Lillian, of course.”
