A Cynic's Eyes

 A CYNIC'S EYES

I never thought I would look at the world

Through a cynic’s eyes.

I fear such a world is making me bitter.

Once full of faith,

Perhaps blind optimism,

Now distrust consumes me.

It seems everybody is out for themselves,

And themselves only.

Ever waiting to tear into others,

Snatch away their happiness,

Support a word unheard of.

No longer are successes congratulated,

Just examined for faults ruthlessly,

Kicking people when they are down.

I never thought I would look at the world

Through a cynic’s eyes.

I fear I have no choice,

If I am to

 survive.
