Amaris heard the paramedics knock on the door and ran downstairs. Yanking open the door she said, "My moms upstairs in the room at the end of the hall."

The paramedics put Amaris' mother on a backboard and took her to the hospital. Amaris wrote a quick note telling her 12-year-old sister that they'd be back later and to call her when she gets home from school. Then she went into her mothers room, searching for the keys to her mothers Kia. Instead, she found the keys to her truck. She then hurried outside and got into her blue truck.

"Okay, I can do this," she said. "Just put the key in the ignition. Okay, now put the truck in reverse, foot off the brake. I got this. It's just a truck."

Amaris drove to the hospital, carefully obeying all traffic laws with her hands at ten and two, white-knuckling the wheel.
