I drew a map

Of the city I love

On the back of a napkin

The city of streetlights,

Car horns, secret midnights,

Shouts in the darkness,

Coffee shops in abandonment

I draw Main Street

With the chain restaurants

And the traffic light that

Never changes to green

I draw South Broadway

With it's antique stores

And history engraved in the sidewalks

I draw the corner of St. Johnson

With the dress shop

No one shops at

I draw arrows

In every direction

And yet I know

As planned out as this city is

I will never map

The way back home

To you.
