Respectfully Rose

Chapter Sixteen

~~

Isaac helped Rose back to her room before reluctantly leaving her. He needed to get Lorraine out of this house; it wasn’t fair to Rose having her sister being rude to her when she was still recovering from an illness that almost took her life!

She had no right to be here! Sure she was Rose’s sister but she didn’t act like one and she wouldn’t be welcome anywhere near Rose until she acted like one. He marched downstairs and back out the door, down to the garden where Lorraine sat in an over extravagant yellow dress sipping tea as though she owned the place.

“Lorraine,” He said firmly “May I have a word?”

“Yes, of course.” Lorraine replied with a slow smile, she no doubt thought he’d beg for her to come back to him but he never would. He was in love with Rose, and happier than he had ever been with Lorraine.

She looked at him seductively and he resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

“Lorraine, I want you to leave immediately.”

“Oh Isaac I- wait what?” Lorraine questioned her pale green eyes narrowing.

“Leave Lorraine” Isaac said again “This isn’t your life anymore. I’m married to your sister, and we’re happy.”

“Oh please” Lorraine said rolling her eyes “You would never be happy with her.”

“I was never be happy with you!” Isaac said gaining his strength “You were mean and cruel and you hated my family and wanted to change me and you did for a while… I don’t like who I was with you.” Isaac was actually quite proud of himself he had never spoke out like he just did and it felt good. His sister Ariel would be proud.

Lorraine stood before him with her mouth open in shock. Isaac simply turned away satisfied he finally stood up to Lorraine.

Rose didn’t want to be bothered; she didn’t want to be around Isaac, Nigel, or Felix. Even though they wanted to help her she didn’t want anyone’s help. She wanted her independence back but soon as how she couldn’t see she did require a slight bit of help. She felt her way around the room; her mind remembered where the rope was to ring the bell for a servant.

It wasn’t more than five minutes before Rose heard Flora’s small steps “Ma’am” Flora said formally “Are you alright?”

“I’d be much obliged if you’d take me to Grandpapa’s study.”

“Yes ma’am” Flora agreed taking Rose’s arm “I could bring you some tea… I believe we still have your favorite.”

Rose smiled “I’d like that very much, thank you Flora.”

“Alright” Flora said helping Rose to take a seat on the overstuffed settee she had often sat in when she was young “I’ll be right back with your tea.”

Rose closed her eyes remembering all the time she had spent in that study, she saw the room in her  memories and smiled at all the time Felix had fought reading or writing but their Grandpapa had insisted he had saw the intelligence in Felix and Felix had later become a doctor only to quit when their beloved grandparents passed. She knew he blamed himself for not being able to help them, but Rose knew it was their time to go otherwise they would have both survived that horrid fever.

“Oh Isaac” Rose heard the muffled voice coming from the next room; she stood crossing the room nearly knocking a table over in the process. “I can’t do this, Rose is my sister.” Rose frowned standing closer to the wall so as to hear her better.
