To be truthful, you knew quite well that you had changed so much, and yet at the same time so little, since you left Los Angeles on that plane to Vancouver. Being in Nunavut and with Matt and meeting people so different from yourself put you in a place you'd never been before.

You'd become stronger in heart and mind, not to mention body. You had grown, nearly a full year having passed, and your mindset had completely flipped in that simple year. Laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, you could still hear yourself.

"...isn't Matt the one with anger issues, dad? Or was that Allen...? You could be sending me to my death! This isn't fair!"

God, you just hated the memory of your own wining voice. To think that at the time having no Internet or WiFi or whatever was your biggest problem.

"...You kind of look like a guy that wrestles moose in the woods."

"Shut up, you bitch..." you grumbled to yourself, rubbing your face with your hands tiredly, sitting up and brushing some of your hair out your face. You slide your legs off the edge of the bed, your bare feet touching the cold floor just for a moment before they twitch away from the chill. You ease them down again, finally standing up and stretching.

Drearily making your way into the main area of the apartment where the living room and kitchen connected, you looked around, only to find Allen on the couch out cold. You couldn't lie that when he was asleep and wasn't smirking and giving some girl dumb one-liners, he was quite handsome. With his reddish-brown hair and tanned skin, you had to wonder how he ended up like this. But from the stories you'd heard about his and Matt's parents, you could only imagine.

Especially since they had two dads... and both of them were just as dangerous as Matt and Allen combined from what you'd heard. Allen tended to tell you plenty of stories about those two, not that you really asked. But you granted him your attention every once in a while.

He snored a little and shifted his arms crossed over his chest but didn't wake, and so you started devising your plan while he was still delirious of your presence in the room.

In the kitchen you dug through the cupboards for a small breakfast. One thing you definitely didn't mind about living with Allen was he shared your vegetarian taste, although Matt had worked some of it out of you. But with the opportunity to eat your preferred foods, you took it often.

After grabbing three protein bars, unwrapping one and taking a bite out of it before heading back to your room. Quickly you dressed out of your pajamas into jeans, your converses and a simple t-shirt. You yank open a drawer under your bed you believed Allen didn't know about since it seemed to be the only empty drawer in the apartment. Inside was your stashed away escape supplies.

Last night, quickly before Allen had come home, covered in blood of course, you had gathered up three water bottles and some simple food as well as band aids and a rope or two. Hopefully it would last you until you could get some help, but since you weren't exactly much of a survivalist in the first place, you couldn't tell yourself if your chances were good or not even in the city.

You wanted to get out as soon as you could because of one specific item you'd hidden in your secret drawer. Pulling on a warm jean jacket, you tucked a filled pistol of Allen's you'd found hidden away well in his closet.

You shuddered at the thought of what he might do to you if he found you with it...

You took your school bag and removed all your homework from it, putting your supplies inside. Taking a deep breath, you slung the bag over your shoulder and went to the window. Down, so far down...

With a grunt, you lifted the window, a cold New York morning breeze coming in. Winter was definitely coming soon again. The thought of Matt returning to Nunavut without you, if he was still alive, made your stomach churn. You knew if you had to stay in the States through winter, you'd want to stay in the city. It was warmer around all the buildings.
