"Drunk words are sober thoughts..."

✖

When his jerk of a father leaves the family, Luke Hemmings and his mother decide it's time for a change of scenery. From Sydney, Australia to the small coastal town of Percival Shores, California, the Hemmings duo rebuild their lives after years of neglect, hoping to bring back the happiness and love they so desperately need. As any normal teen, Luke changes his look. He ditches his thick glasses, slicked back hair, and nerdy predisposition for one that matches his new peers. Dockers, Sperrys, collared Polos, and his signature quiffed hair, Luke's standing on the social spectrum sky rockets.

But with popularity comes limitations. Don't do that, don't watch this, you like which band? As Luke rises on the social chain, the harder it becomes to keep up, and the less of himself he becomes. That is until Ari Quiroz decides to step into his life.

A spunky, loud-mouthed, and fearless Filipina, Ari's short stature is jam-packed with enough confidence to roam the preppy hallways of Percival Shores High in her tattered shoes and flannels without a fear of judgment. After a drunken encounter, Ari spends the rest of her nigh time shift tending to Luke's loopy self. But in doing so, Ari inadvertently shows Luke what it feels like to be himself. She is able to bring out the best in Luke, and teaches him how to be his true self again.

But as any popular crowd functions, hell hath no fury like a Hollister model scorned.

As Luke slowly reverts back to his old self, and trades in his Dockers for a pair of skinny jeans, the popular crew at Percival Shores High will stop at nothing to make sure Luke plummets down the social ladder-- bringing his new punk rock friends with him. With the fear of being a freak again and all the temptations to be popular luring him in, Luke has to decide what's more important: senior year as a loser with life-long loser friends, or spend his last year of high school as Percival Shores royalty-- even if the alcohol keeps wiping away the memories.

If drunk words are sober thoughts, then Luke Hemmings is in for one hell of a hangover.
