Sage went downstairs and Maggie and Beatrice was sitting on the couch, she went to join them but the front door opened and Alex and Marcus came in panting. Beatrice stood

“What happened?” she asked frantically

Marcus shook his head, and Sage saw Beatrice shrink back onto the couch. Just then Simon came in from the kitchen with an apple in his hand when he saw everyone staring at him he flushed but asked

“What did I do?”

“Nothing” they all mumbled in unison besides Maggie who just looked confused and worried. Sage walked over putting her arm around her and Maggie leaned into her side.

“Beatrice I want you and Maggie to go out of town for a few days” Marcus announced suddenly

Maggie grabbed onto Sage’s hand and squeezed, “No I’m not leaving Sage” she whimpered

Sage turned to see Marcus and Alex who was both looking at her with strained, worried and pleading eyes; she nodded slightly for only them to see and then turned back to Maggie

“Maggie listen to me ok” she said and got up and sits on her knees on the floor in front of Maggie, Maggie nodded, “You have to leave ok, just for a little while I promise”

Maggie shook her head, “NO” she screamed causing everyone to jump quieter she said, “I don’t want you to leave then you’ll disappear just like my doggy”

Sage looked around only to find that the living room was empty leaving them alone.

“I promise nothing will happen to me or you or anyone we know. Okay?”

They stared at each other then Maggie leaned forward and hugged Sage real tight, Sage hugged her back

“Ok, only if you do one thing for me?” Maggie said leaning back

Sage said, “What’s that?”

“Only if you make me cookies when I get back” she said and giggled

Sage laughed softly along with her, “Fine I will”

Just then Beatrice came from upstairs holding two suitcases, “Maggie we need to go”

Maggie tearfully hugged Sage one last time before going to Beatrice and Marcus who was now behind her, Alex held open the door,

Beatrice hugged Sage, “Be careful” she whispered in Sage’s ear

“Just take care of her, and tell her I love her” Sage whispered back

Then they let go and Beatrice was walking out to the car when they got there she put the bags in the backseat and held the passenger door open for Maggie who turned back one last time and yelled

“I love you Sage” before climbing into the car

Beatrice waved and blew a kiss to Marcus who returned it before getting into the car and driving away. Sage could feel the tears streaming down her cheeks and suddenly she felt arms around her soldier she looked to see Simon, which at first surprised her but she cried into his shoulder until she fell asleep sitting by him on the couch.

She didn’t know what time it was but she knew she was alone but she heard muffled voices coming from the kitchen.

“…I already know” someone said that sounded like Simon

“How?” Marcus asked

“I knew before I even got here what this town had,” he sighed, “And from what I just seen I have a feeling it has something to do with you guys”

Alex answered, “Yeah the other pack isn’t making it easy”

“Ok…so who got killed?” Simon asked

Sage’s eyes widened, ‘he knew’ she thought

“A women that worked at the bank and then her…daughter” Marcus replied getting choked on the last word

Sage couldn’t take it anymore hearing all of this knowing it was her fault, that Cam and his pack only wanted her. So silently she walked to the door and eased out of it.
