When I first laid eyes on Apollo I thought she was a bit peculiar; running around climbing trees, flying above spooking away the unsuspecting birds while laughing like a deranged cartoon villain, and talking to her imaginary friends all the time. She had given me this goofy grin as she shook my hand. She had a couple of teeth missing at the time, to which she proudly said to me,"I ran into a tree but at least I beat Ren in the race. I'm Apollo the awesomest angel you'll ever meet."

"I'm Shade." I answered mesmerized by the faint glow that radiated from the silver swirl of her irises.

She looked at me for a while then frowned,"Why are you staring at me like that? Do you want to fight? Archer says you want to fight me."

I nodded my head from side to side,"No I just...I just thought that the color of your eyes
is pretty."

"Really?"She smiled,"You mean it?"

"Um, yeah. I've never seen anything like them." Her wings had expanded and retracted behind her involuntarily. My gaze drifted to those small wings sprouting from her back, covered in an array of the darkest blues, purples, and onyx feathers that seemed like they'd been melded from a dark metallic liquid.

And as I stood at her side presently, I couldn't picture myself anywhere else.

"So did you already meet your roommate?" She held her hands behind her back, fingers entwined together.

"Yeah, I did. I actually invited him to sit with us since he's new here, I hope you don't mind."

"I don't mind as long as he isn't in league with the vegetables. Those things are dangerous, and evil."

"Apollo, just because you got hit with a carrot doesn't mean they're evil."

"That carrot almost got me in the freakin' eye. I could've ended up as a pirate, not that that wouldn't have been really cool, but still my life flashed before my eyes. And I was so horrified that I wouldn't get to eat all the sweets I wanted, ever again."

"It was a baby carrot." I pointed out, fully expecting her reproachful stare.

"Just on who's side are you on anyways, jerk?" She crossed her arms and pouted.

I chuckled,"Yours, of course. Always."

"You better be, or else I'll be really sad and feeling betrayed but mostly sad."

"Will a piece or two of cake cheer you up?"

"Make it three and you'll be forgiven."

"Done."

"Yess!!" She grinned and raised her hands up in the air. I couldn't help but smile back at her, as I heard the glee in her voice.

As we made our way to the dining hall I couldn't help but reminisce about other memories from our childhood. As far as I could look back Apollo had always been so full of expression with her every emotion out in the open, uncensored. Smiles naturally forming across her face, earnest and gentle yet blinding in their own way.

I waved over to our friends as soon as I spotted them near a table by the windows .

There was Oz gazing thoughtfully out the window, the light blue hues of the sky reflected against her translucent blue eyes. The white streaks between the light blue strands of her hair glittering like snow when it was enveloped by the sun's warm embrace. Her skin was as pale as if she'd been making snow angels outside for hours on a cold winter day.
