Chapter 3

Mr. I-am-the-head-of –the-council-and-can-end-this-meeting-here dismissed us all. After that, my parents dragged us around the hall, forcing us to mingle with all of the other people. It wouldn’t have been that bad, except my brother and I were ignored most of the time. The Alpha or Beta would introduce themselves, but would then only direct their conversation to my parents. I was fed up with it. I turned to my father and politely asked him if I could be excused. He reluctantly said yes, and I took off before he could change his mind. I took this chance to look around the council house. Who knew when I would get the chance to be by myself again? I walked around the garden thinking about everything that had happened since this morning.

Why did this have to happen now?  I was so close to graduating, so close to becoming a full werewolf. I didn’t want to have to wait for my mate. I didn’t know how long fate would keep us apart and I didn’t want to find out. I’d already waited eighteen years, and  I was done waiting. With that thought in my mind, I turned to look for my Alpha. I didn’t care where we were, I wanted the ceremony done now. I spotted the Alpha with my parents and few others. I walked straight up to him.

“Excuse me, sir. May I speak to you please?” He turned to look at me. I swear he was about to turn me away, but he must have seen the determination in my face.

“If you gentlemen will please excuse me, I have a few small matters to attend to.” He walked out of the hall with me at his feet. Once we were in private, he turned to me giving me the okay to begin our conversation.

“Sir, are we still on for performing the ceremony tonight?” Surprise lit up his face.

“What?” Now he looked confused. “What are you talking about?” My spirit broke.

“Sir, tonight, you were supposed to perform the ceremony that would allow me to shift for the first time.” I quietly reminded him.

“Oh, of course. How could I have forgotten?” My spirits lifted once again. “Are you sure that you want to do it here? I can guarantee you that your family won’t be the only spectators. It’s been a while since any Alpha has had to perform the ceremony, so I’m pretty sure that everyone here will want to watch.” I gulped. Everyone?

I turned back to him. “I’m positive, sir. I’ve waited for this moment since I was born. I don’t know how long it will take me to find my mate, and, frankly, sir, I’m not even sure I’m ready for one yet.”  I watched his face as he thought about it.

“Very well. Go tell your parents that the ceremony will take place in 2 hours.” With that, he walked out, the conversation over with. I ran as fast as I could to find my family, not caring about the stupid grin that was spread across my face. It didn’t take me long to find my family. I tried to walk over to them as calmly as I could. My parents were in a really deep conversation, so I took the time to talk to Aiden for a little bit. He was looking around the whole room when his whole body stiffened.

“What? What is it?” I started to panic a little. Aiden was rarely ever scared. Then I saw what had caught his eye. It was Emmet, Alpha of the High Moon pack. He was only nineteen and had been made Alpha last year. It was rumored that he was the scariest Alpha of all of them, and that was saying something. I couldn’t see his face, but I could definitely see his body. He was fit and toned in all the right places. For only being nineteen, he already had dozens of scars. I shuddered at the thought of what he could do. I was about to make a comment, but I realized that my parents were done with their conversation, so I thought better of it.

“Hey, Mom, Dad, I need you guys to get ready.” Confused looks came across their faces, then worry. “Hey, there’s nothing to worry about! Geez, you really doubt me that much?”

“What’s going on sweetheart?” Mom spoke first.

“Alpha Jake said the he would perform the ceremony in two hours, well, probably like an hour and a half now.”

“What?!”  I was shocked. I never in my mind thought that my father would react this way. “We can’t fo it here!”

“Why not?” My mother and I replied in unison. “What’s wrong with this place?”

“It’s supposed to be done on sacred grounds . . .”

“Which these are.” I interrupted him.

“Yes, but . . .”

“Just admit it honey; you don’t want her to go through with this.” I froze. Could it really be true? I looked at my father with tears in my eyes.

“No, I . . . just .  . .” He trailed off. I was ready to run back to my room so that I could try to hid my tears. “An hour and a half you said?” he sighed. My head snapped up.

“Really?”

“You better hurry up. We don’t want to make the Alpha wait, and we all know how long it takes you to get ready.” I threw myself at him.

“Thank you Daddy.” I whispered.

“Go on now.” He laughed. I gave him one last squeeze, then turned to go back to room, then walked straight into him.
