When dreams come true

I got the notice of my father's death a couple weeks ago. Was I invited to the funeral; of course not. That was his one and only specific wish. As I knew, Kyle has been a great King for the past eight years. He kept his word, never once telling my father about our escape. Although, we did have the house searched by a couple guards about a week after we arrived. Everything went well though.

Rochelle has moved back to her place, considering it safe, once again. Eventually, everyone found out about my missing, but the word died down after a couple years. I can freely walk around town if I wanted, but I've still been too afraid to have someone notice me. My hair is still short, and slightly lighter from all the work I've been doing around the cabin. I sometimes can't even recognize myself.

"Dear, we need more formula; can you get some today while I go to work?" Neville shouted from the nursery. I sighed, getting up from the garden and walking back into the house.

"Of course! I'll bring Ken with me downtown today while you stay with Katie, is that alright?" I shouted back, washing my hands in the sink by the window, looking out at the creek. I heard him agree with me as I walked out back.

It was weird that after a couple weeks of hiding, we had been receiving small payments of money, enough for food and new supplies for around the house to get settled in, but Rochelle nor was his family giving it to us. Marie and my mother often sent notes, but that was it, they never confessed to doing such a thing.

"Ken, come on son, we need to go to the village and pick something up for your baby sister!" I informed him as he got out of the creek and came running inside.

"I thought your father told you to dry off before you came back inside!" I yelled frustrated, grabbing a close by towel and mopping up his foot prints that led to his room.

"Sorry mommy, I forgots." He said, smiling. Ken, who was now five, lost his two front teeth the other day.

"Come on Hun, hurry up!" I said, walking to the nursery to say goodbye to Katie, who was now six months old.

"Are you going by the castle?" Neville asked once he noticed me walking in. I nodded my head at him. There was two ways to get to the village from here, the long way, or the short way which just so happens to run directly across the castle grounds.

"Just be safe dear, I don't want you to go missing." He joked, causing me to laugh. I kissed Katie as he kissed my cheek. Ken ran into the room and kissed his little sister, before grabbing my hand and yanking on it.

"I'll be back in a couple hours!" I shouted, before closing the front door behind me. Ken and I were walking for a couple of minutes towards the castle, in silence.

"Mommy, when can we visit Nova?" He sheepishly asked. I smiled at him, he loved his Aunt Nova.

"Soon darling, they're coming over for dinner tonight." I said, grabbing a hold of his hand as we got closer to the castle grounds. Half an hour later we were just outside the castle, hidden by a couple trees and bushes.

"Ken, stay close." I whispered to him. He looked at me scared, coming closer to me. We kneeled down and looked to see if the cost was clear. Just as I was about to say we can run, Kyle came out of the front castle doors. My heart almost stopped. This wasn't the first time I have seen him since that day, but he looked so much different now. He was taller, slightly going gray in a couple spots. I took a sharp intake of breath and almost fell over, grabbing on the branch of a tree to stop me from doing so. Kyle's head looked over into the forest and I grabbed Ken's hand and yanked him behind the tree with me.

"Mommy, what's wrong?" He whispered. I looked down at him, giving him a reassuring smile before counting to one-hundred. I popped my head out of the tree and notice the carriage was gone, as well as any trace of Kyle. I quickly grabbed Ken's hand and ran across the field, going towards the village. Ken kept up good with me.

Ken kept up with me the whole time, being sure not to talk to people unless talked to. I quickly got the formula and walked over to the vegetable stand a couple feet away. I purchased a couple egg plants, a round of lettuce, and some colorful peppers, all for the dinner with Neville's family tonight.

"Mommy look! They have teddy bears! We can get one for Katie!" He shouted, running off without me. In an instant I bolted after him, yelling out his name. Once I was close enough I grabbed onto his hand and yanked him back. He looked up at me surprised before I noticed he thought he was in trouble and started to slightly cry.

"Don't you ever run away from me like that again when we are around here, alright?" He nodded his head, his lips trembling. I gave him a tight hug, giving him some sort reassurance.

"I'm not mad, I was just worried." I whispered into his ear.

"Is everything alright here?" I heard a familiar voice say. My hands became clammy and my mind was clouded with memories.

"Bow for the King, Ken." I whispered, bowing for Kyle. This was weird I must say, bowing to my husband who was a Royal like I was. I watched Ken bow like we made him practice, just in case this ever happened. I slowly stood back up, avoiding eye contact with him while I looked at the floor.

"Everything is fine, King, just a misunderstanding." I said, looking down at Ken who grabbed my hand nervously.

"What did you want, young one?" Kyle asked, getting down on his knee to reach Ken's level.

"I wanted to get a teddy bear for my new baby sister." He said, nervously, looking at him. I squeezed his hand reassuringly, telling him he was doing alright. If Kyle find's out it was me, his wife, the queen, I have no idea what I was going to do.

"We can get you a teddy bear; we will get you the biggest one in that store!" Kyle said, motioning for his guard to do as he was told. Ken's eyes widened as he smiled the biggest smile I have ever seen on his face. I could help but giggle at him. Kyle stood up slowly, looking at me curiously. My heart rate picked up speed, he knows who I am! I was panicking. The guard came back out with a huge teddy bear, handing it to Ken who took it and hugged it.

"My sister is going to love you!" He said to the bear, trying to hold it up in front of him. The bear was the size of him, it was adorable. I smiled at Kyle, grabbing Kens hand and trying to find a way to escape this uncomfortable yet dangerous situation.

"Well, I must be going home now, I'm expecting some company." I said, lifting the basket up to show him I indeed did have plans with dinner.

"Of course Lady, Go ahead." He said, moving aside to let me pass. Relief exploded in me, as I took my only escape and started to walk away. It was only when he spoke again did I notice the way he called me 'Lady'.

"Oh and Jane," He started. I instantly stopped. I was caught, I was going to prison, and he was going to kill me and my family. My life was over. I slowly turned around, facing him head on. He was giving me a slight smile while he ducked his head for a couple of seconds.

"I hope to see you again...." He said, loud enough for me to hear. My eyes began to water as I looked at him, nodding my head. It was then I noticed a guard off to the right of him, looking at me with a knowing smirk on his face. Kyle turned around, and then was followed by his guards as they disappeared down the street. I took a deep calming breath as I turned around, grabbing Ken's hand, and walked back home to my family.
