Escape from Darkness
The steady pace of galloping hooves sound in my ears,
We’re just a just a flash of silver, escaping into the night,
No looking behind now, no turning back to my lurking fears,
I feel safe on her back, protected from all but my own tears,
I squeeze my eyes shut, but something doesn’t feel right,
Am I being followed by the darkness? Will I ever be free?
I try to push the thought away as a shiver runs down my spine,
Burying into her mane, she knows a safe place to hide me,
There is no need to control her, only her eyes are used to see,
Linked together we are one, her soul entwined with mine,
I know we’re being hunted; we are the pray of darkness,
Not one place to hide where our presence won’t be found,
Swiftly like a breeze they are coming, we as their targets,
There’s no point in begging for mercy, the dark is heartless,
Darkness’s breath is on my back now; I feel our hearts pound,
But I swear I will never give them the pleasure of making a sound.
