Her trip had gone wrong from the start. 18 and travelling alone for the first time, her flight was delayed and when she got to London, England, she found she'd left behind sunny New Zealand for rainy London and her aunt and uncle no longer had room for her to stay in their house and couldn't even pick her up from the airport anymore. This was because their delinquent, broke-because-he-bought-his-girlfriends-anything-they-wanted son had been kicked out of university and moved back in to their house in Clacton-On-Sea in Essex at short notice.

Her other brother had moved to Newcastle near the top of England with his wife and child and had no room for her, or a way for her to get there.

Her grandparents on her dad's side weren't an option because despite also living in Clacton, Essex and having a way to pick her up, her grandmother had had a fall out with her father and wasn't talking to her parents, and her grandparents on her mum's side lived in Germany.

And so, that left John her now-policeman oldest brother.
