Round 1: The Train Ride and the Sorting

You sit on the Hogwarts Express, watching the scenery pass by. You flash back to your first day at school. You just arrived at Hogwarts for the first time, and are blown away by the magic-osity. You and the other first years file into the Great Hall, and see the mysterious sorting hat.

 

Oh you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me.

 

You can keep your bowlers black,

Your top hats sleek and tall,

For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat

And I can cap them all.

 

There's nothing hidden in your head

The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you

Where you ought to be.

 

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave at heart,

Their daring, nerve, and chivalry

Set Gryffindors apart;

 

You might belong in Hufflepuff,

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true

And unafraid of toil;

 

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

if you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind;

 

Or perhaps in Slytherin

You'll make your real friends,

Those cunning folks use any means

To achieve their ends.

 

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!

 

Your task this round is to write about the train ride and the sorting ceremony. If your character is attending Hogwarts for the first time, the sorting ceremony may happen after the train ride, or any other way you choose.

If your entry contains any swears or violence, please include a warning before the entry.

**NOTE: Entries are due on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27th, by 11:59 PM, mountain time.

No contestents will be expelled this round so use your time to create alliances and get off on a good foot!

If you do not submit your entry, you will be docked five points from your total unless you have given us a good reason as to why you were unable to complete the challenge (good reasons are pretty much anything other than "I forgot" and "I didn't feel like it").
